A good design brief is something that is vital
to any visual communications project. It is a
key element to the success of your project
and will provide the Communications Team
with all the design information needed.
1. Who is your audience? Detail any
demographic figures about your audience
that may be useful to the designer.
These may include:
• Age
The design brief allows you (the client) to
• Sex
focus on exactly what you want to achieve
• Income
before any work starts on the project and will • Occupation
ensure that you get a high quality job that
• Location
meets your expectations.
2. What’s your budget? Even if you can only
provide an approximate figure, a budget will
give the Communications Team guidance to
find a solution to meet your needs within the
money you have available.

Step one – Consider what you’re trying to
achieve, who your audience is, what your
budget is, and what the timescale is.
Step two – Contact the Communications
Team. They are available to help and advise
on all design projects and campaigns. They
have extensive experience and can advise
you on all aspects of your project.
3. What’s your timescale? Let the
Communications Team know if there is a
specific deadline that has to be met so that
the team can advise if this is possible and
the best way to meet it.
