You can submit your abstract by email us at pgfskuitm@gmail.com. Please be reminded that your abstract is an introduction to the progress/report of your research activities. Please note that The Centre for Postgraduate Studies has made it compulsory for all postgraduate students to submit their abstract and participate in the colloquium. Abstract Guidelines 1. An abstract is a brief summary of a current/on-going/completed research project. Reading of the abstracts by the colloquium attendees assists the attendees in deciding which presentations they will attend. 2. Abstracts by postgraduate students must be approved by the supervisor/s prior to submission. 3. The Organizing Committee will not proofread the abstracts. 4. Abstracts should be in one paragraph between 150 and 300 words with no figures. In the abstract, students can address one or more of the following based on students’ current research projects: a. Provide the background and rationale for the project. Why do we care about the problem? What practical, scientific or theoretical gap is your research content? b. Provide the method(s)/procedure/approach for how you completed your project or methods for current research project. (e.g. analyzed 3 samples, completed a series of 5 experiments, interviewed 17 students) MSMR Persatuan Pascasiswazah Fakulti Sains Kesihatan (PG-FSK) Aras 6, FSK1-5, Fakulti Sains Kesihatan, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Kampus Puncak Alam, 42300 Puncak Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. E-mel: pgfskuitm@gmail.com Tel: +603-32584320 c. As a result of completing the above procedure, what have you learn, invent or create? What is the most important implication or interpretation to know about your results? d. Interpret your results for a broader audience. What are the larger implications of your findings, especially for the problem/gap as identified above? 5. Abstracts will be published in the abstract book/proceeding. 6. By participating in this 1st Postgraduate Research Colloquium, it is understood that photos of you and your research may be used in various publications. 7. If you do not want to be included in any publications, please email us at pgfskuitm@gmail.com. Length Abstracts must be no fewer than 150 words and no more than 300 words. Limit your abstract to text only; figures will not be reproduced in the colloquium Proceedings/Abstract Book. Tips for Writing Abstracts 1. Write in the past tense for reporting current or completed projects. For those in the process of preparing the proposal, you are advised to use future present tense. 2. Spell out acronyms the first time they are used. For example, write "Universiti Teknologi MARA" rather than "UiTM." 3. Provide definitions for terms. For example, write, "Positron Emission Tomography is an imaging technique that uses radioactive tracers to map the metabolism of chemicals in the brain; the more active an area of the brain, the greater the metabolic activity in that area." rather than, "We used PET to measure the uptake of radioactive tracers to map brain function." 4. Write clearly and simply. Avoid verbosity and jargon. Emphasize the important details of your project. Abstracts are a "road map" to help interested persons navigate your paper presentation. Avoid extraneous and unnecessary words. 5. Everything mentioned in the abstract should be a summary of what is mentioned in the presentation. Topics not mentioned in the presentation should not appear in the abstract. 6. Consider your audience. Colloquium attendees may or may not share your area of expertise and knowledge. MSMR
