Particles in the media reflecting the irradiated light which is detected by the receiver diode (backscatter principle). The electronics calculates the relative turbidity of the media according to the received signal. One LED checks continuously the emitter luminosity and automatically compensate if the amount of emitted light is changing, due to Temperature effect for example. It is possible to calibrate the VOM is day light.
