Attachment Explanatory Notes on Use of Emergency Backup Terminals In case of emergency, there are 20 Emergency Backup Terminals for Exchange Participants’ (EPs’) use on a first-come first-served basis. Four of such Terminals located in the Trading Hall (Dealing Desk Numbers 291 to 294) are mainly used as backup for On-floor Terminals (Dealing Desks) whereas the remaining 16 Terminals located at the Backup Centre at 1/F, VHeun Building, 128-140 Queen’s Road Central are primarily reserved for emergency use by EPs which do not have any Dealing Desk in the Trading Hall. Application Procedures 1. For faulty On-floor Terminal (Dealing Desk), the floor trader concerned should contact Trading Floor Office either in person or by phone on 2840 3933 as soon as possible. 2. For faulty Off-floor trading devices, EP should contact Participant General Enquiry Hotline on 2840 3626 as soon as possible and submit the duly completed “Application Form for Emergency Backup Terminal” to the Exchange by fax on 2521 7899. Points to Note A. Failure of On-floor Terminals (Dealing Desks) in the Trading Hall 1. One Emergency Backup Terminal will be provided for each faulty On-floor Terminal (Dealing Desk). 2. The original broker number of the faulty On-floor Terminal (Dealing Desk) will be assigned for use in Emergency Backup Terminal. B. Failure of Off-floor Trading Devices 1. For EP with both On- and Off-floor Trading Devices • In case only off-floor trading devices are inoperable, NO Emergency Backup Terminal will be provided. The EP concerned should continue its trading activities with its On-floor Terminal (Dealing Desk). 2. For EP with Off-floor Trading Devices Only • In case ALL off-floor trading devices (including all backup devices) are inoperable, the EP concerned can apply for ONE Emergency Backup Terminal. 1 a. For Terminal User (with or without Open Gateways (OGs)) i. The smart cards of all off-floor trading devices (except the one used in Point ii below) of the EP concerned will be suspended immediately by the Exchange upon reporting of fault. ii. One of the EP’s broker numbers used in the Off-floor Terminals, as selected by the EP, will be assigned to the Emergency Backup Terminal. EP should bring along the smart card used by this broker number to the Backup Centre to log on the Emergency Backup Terminal. In case EP could not get hold of the smart card, the Exchange will issue an emergency smart card (only applies to Emergency Backup Terminals located in the Backup Centre only) for the EP’s use. b. For OG Only User (without any sort of Off-floor Terminals) i. The smart cards of all OGs of the EP concerned will be suspended immediately by the Exchange upon reporting of fault. ii. The pre-assigned emergency broker number will be assigned to Emergency Backup Terminal and an emergency smart card will be issued for logon. C. The use of Emergency Backup Terminal will be valid for the day. The EP concerned must notify Trading Floor Office after its use of the Emergency Backup Terminal either in person or by phone on 2840 3933. The EP concerned must return the emergency smart card (if applicable) immediately after use and also remove all personal belongings from the Emergency Backup Terminal at the Trading Hall or the Backup Centre before leaving. D. Should EP require using the Emergency Backup Terminal on the following trading day, it should reapply by following the same application procedures as set out above. E. The Exchange has absolute discretion to assign the Emergency Backup Terminals in such manner and location as it thinks fit and the ultimate location of the Emergency Backup Terminal will be subject to availability.
