Construction
United Copper Industries Type MC cables are constructed of soft-drawn bare copper
(Solid or Stranded) with lead-free THHN/THWN-2 insulated conductors
(90˚C dry/75˚C wet), including the green insulated ground conductor. The conductors
are cabled, wrapped in a polypropylene (mylar) tape and an aluminum tape interlocked
sheath is applied. Available in size range from #14 AWG to #2 AWG.
Applications
Type MC is suitable for use as branch circuit, feeder and service power distribution
in commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-residential buildings; power, lighting,
control, and signal circuits; fished or embedded in plaster; concealed or exposed
installations; evironmental air-handling spaces; places of assembly and theaters;
installation in cable tray and approved raceways; under raised floors for
technology equipment conductors and cables; as aerial cable on a

• Ampacities shown are for general use as specified by the NEC, Section 310.5
• For equipment marked for use at higher temperatures, the conductor ampacity
shall be limited to the following per NEC 110.14 ©
• 60˚C when terminated to equipment for circuits rated 100 amperes or
less marked for #14 Awg through #1 AWG conductor.
• 75˚C when terminated to equipment for circuits rated 100 amperes or
less or marked for conductors larger than #1 AWG.
• 90˚C for ampacity derating purposes.
• When the neutral is considered a current carrying conductor, the ampacity
of 4th conductor cables shall be reduced by a factor of 0.80 per NEC 310.15(B0 (2) (a).
• Grounding Conductors #8 AWG and larger are Stranded.
• The above data is approximate and subject to manufacturing tolerences.
