Māori occasions and practices may be karakia, sharing of kai, waiata, kōrero, whaikōrero, rongoa, whanaungatanga. Manaaki is the showing of hospitality. Karakia is prayer. Kai is the sharing of food. Waiata is a song or a chant. Tapu is forbidden, sacred, not to be defiled. Mana is influence, prestige. Aroha is affection, love. Aroha ki te tangata is the love for all humankind. Kōrero is talk or discussion. Whaikōrero is speech making. Rongoa is traditional Māori medicine. Whanaungatanga is interacting with family members. This may include immediate and extended family. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Participate in Māori occasions and practices. Evidence requirements 1.1 Participation in karakia is consistent with Māori values and the context. 1.2 Participation in the sharing of kai is consistent with Māori principles and the context. 1.3 Participation in waiata is consistent with Māori principles and the context. 1.4 Participation in kōrero is consistent with Māori principles and the context. 1.5 Participation in whaikōrero is consistent with Māori principles and the context. 1.6 The use of rongoa is consistent with Māori principles and the context. 1.7 Participation in whanaungatanga is consistent with Māori principles. Outcome 2 Demonstrate adherence associated with Māori values at Māori occasions. Evidence requirements 2.1 Manaaki demonstrated is confirmed as being consistent with Māori values and the context. 2.2 Aroha demonstrated is consistent with Māori values and the context. 2.3 Aroha ki te tangata demonstrated is consistent with Māori values and the context. 2.4 Recognition of people’s mana is demonstrated. 2.5 Tapu is adhered to in accordance with Māori values and the context.
