LAB ASSISTANT – COMPUTER SCIENCE/ COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
Job Summary
Under the direction of the IT Administrator, he should be able to maintain and upgrade the
hardware and software of computer systems in the computer lab. Assist the faculty in providing
instructions to individual student as well as small groups of students in an assigned learning
environment. Organize and maintain computer lab; provide students with intensified learning
experiences.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Updates software on desktops/ laptops in the computer lab.
•
Sets up dual boot machines.
•
Installs softwares as needed.
•
Maintains department network printers and other related equipments.
•
Has proper knowledge of softwares, equipments, training kits, development boards,
instruments, tools etc in the laboratory.
•
Makes arrangements for softwares, equipments, training kits, development boards, and
instruments, tools etc. required for conducting various labs, projects & research works and
maintains proper record for the same. He shall intent the above from the university store as
and when needed. •
Issue of equipments, training kits, development boards, instruments, tools etc. to students/
staff/faculty etc. and maintains proper records for the same.

Reports to the concerned authority of malfunction/breakage of any equipment, training kit,
development board, instrument, tool etc. and maintains their general operating condition
including routine maintenance and repair. •
Works with other departments of the University to facilitate the smooth operation of the
laboratory.
•
Provides assistance to Faculty as needed. Assists students with laboratory experiments and
projects.
•
Sets up the laboratory for classes, examinations, workshops and seminars.
•
Arrives on time and opens the lab to ensure its cleanness.
•
Maintains a register for the attendance of students who are using the laboratory beyond
their prescribed hours.
•
Ensures that students do not carry any eatables inside the lab.
•
Shuts down all running systems and switch off lights whenever not in use.
•
Educates students to keep lab neat & clean and maintain standards to do the same.
•
Is aware of the rules and regulations of lab.
•
Perform other job-related duties as and when assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
A lab assistant must be a graduate in the related field with 3-5 years of experience in a reputed
educational institute. Any additional course or diploma in Computer Systems/ Information
Technology/ Software/ Hardware /Networking will be an added advantage.
