The Intermediate Times www.jcschools.com October2010 Dear Parents/Guardians, The school year is off to a great start. Students have settled into their new classes and routines well. Thanks to all of you that were able to attend our Open House last week. It was great to have so many families visiting our classrooms and meeting our staff. As the fall weather arrives, please remind your children to not only wear a jacket on these cool mornings, but to pick them up off the playground and bring them home. We have many items already collecting in our lost and found that is located in the cafeteria. Next Friday, October 8th, we will be having an Early Emergency Release Drill. This means that the children will all be dismissed from school fifteen minutes earlier. This should have your children arriving home earlier, don’t forget to make arrangements if necessary. We will not have school on Monday, October 11th, in celebration of Columbus Day. Remember to look for the Friday Folders each week that will be coming home with your child. There will be work they have done as well as important information we would like to share with you. We will be starting the “Word of the Month” in October. The first word will be Heroism with the focus on the character traits of Courage and Bravery even at difficult times. Each class will have a writing lesson in regards to being a hero. It will be focused on a hero in the student’s life. One piece from each class will be read on the news by the author; a few will be read at the assembly (one from each grade level) in November. Sincerely, Peggy Kucko makucko@jcschools.stier.org 763â1254 Upcoming Important Dates Friday, October 8th – District Early Dismissal Drill – Dismissal 3:00 Monday, October 11th – No School Columbus Day Friday, October 15th – K-5 School Pictures Thursday, October 28th – Student of the Month Assembly @ 2:30. Important reminders for parents/guardians From the Attendance Office: Please call the main office every day your child is absent or tardy. The phone number to call is 763-1254. When your child returns to school, please have them bring a note from you explaining the reason they were absent. There are forms available for this purpose on the Johnson City School District homepage (jcschools.com) Parent Pick-up: Please notify the office in writing if you will be picking up your child at dismissal. If an emergency occurs, please notify the Intermediate Office by 2:30 if you will be picking your child up. This helps to alleviate confusion at the end of the day. Your child may only be released to a person that you listed on the emergency information sheet. Unless prior arrangements are made with the Transportation Department (763-1249), your child may NOT take a different bus home. Late Bus: Students will be able to stay and get extra help on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Students will be provided transportation home if needed at 3:50. If the student has not been picked up by a parent by the time the late bus arrives, the student will be put on the late bus to go home. Cell phone and technology device reminder: Please remember that cell phones are not allowed to be used in school for any reason. Game boys, Nintendo Ds, and MP3 players for example, are expensive items that are not allowed to be played with during school hours.
