Hudson Valley Community College
TROY, NEW YORK
MEMORANDUM
TO:
Matriculated Students Seeking CLEP Credit for a Degree Program at Hudson Valley
Community College.
FROM: The Office of the Registrar and the Center for Careers and Transfer
RE:
Requirements for Credit by Examination at Hudson Valley Community College
DATE:
Effective: July 2010
Hudson Valley Community College has long understood that recognizing and rewarding prior
learning benefits both the college and students. The College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
is an important part of this recognition.
Nearly all American colleges have a policy for awarding credit through CLEP. Students who
intend to transfer should contact their transfer college of choice for their transfer policy. Hudson
Valley Community College students need to contact their advisor prior to registering for CLEP.
Departments vary in their acceptance.
In July 2001, all CLEP exams have made the transition from paper-pencil administration to a
computer-delivered system. Computerization offers many benefits, including instantaneous
scoring and enhanced test development processes.
The American Council on Education (ACE) has reviewed CLEP as well as its processes and
procedures being utilized in the conversion to computer-based testing. Hudson Valley
Community College requires a credit-granting score of 50 for all exams* (with the exception
of College Composition Modular and Language Level 2 exams, see page 3), in accordance
with ACE recommendations.
