Working out your average GCSE score
1. If you are on a BTEC Introductory/First Diploma or GCSEs your MAGs are in separate tables
below:
2. If you are on a BTEC Extended Diploma or A Levels, list all your GCSE subjects and the
grades you got. (It is vital that you list EVERY subject, even the ones you’d rather forget
about).
3. Each grade is given a point score as in the table below e.g grade B = 6 points, grade E = 3
points. Use this table to get the score for each of your GCSEs and write these numbers in the
“Score” column on the form (overleaf).

4. Once all your scores have been recorded, add up the total figure.
5. Divide this total figure by the number of GCSEs you have taken
6. You should now have a number roughly between 3.2 and 8.2. This is your Average GCSE
Score. Look up your number in the tables below, and see what your Minimum Acceptable
Grade (MAG) is:

Remember also that your MAG is a minimum.

succeed in obtaining grade As if they put in the hard work and show the necessary dedication
