Dear SMS,
Happy Spring! We are all looking forward to the warmer weather
ahead and as the days grow longer we can enjoy the outdoors and the
nature that surrounds us. Our environmental team this year has made
saving our environment a focus as we continue to discuss ways that
we can all work together to make our world a healthier, greener place.
This month of April is dedicated to students learning about
conservation and working on being better energy savers, consumers
and building awareness about the pollution that we create. Our
Gospel teachings as well enhance our Catholic understanding of how
we can make the world a better place and accentuate our joy of
becoming closer to God as we make this commitment to the
preservation of God's gifts to us.
During this Holy season we wish you all a blessed Easter!
April 29 - Civvies Day
God Bless,
Mrs. Naccarato

Anaphylaxis Allergies
Eco Kids Battery Buster Initiative
There are several children in the
school who are allergic to nuts,
peanuts or seeds. These are lifethreatening allergies. Please ensure
that your child’s lunch does not
include any peanut or nut derivatives.
Environmental stewardship and awareness have become
important initiatives at St. Mary of the Angels School. Students
and staff have taken a positive role in reducing energy,
minimizing food lunch waste and ensuring that reducing,
reusing and recycling are adhered to daily.
As part of our next Eco initiative, our focus will be on
recycling household batteries and cell phone batteries. The Eco
Kids Battery Buster initiative will begin on Monday April 4,
2016 and run until May 6, 2016. Staff, students and parents of
the St. Mary of the Angels community are asked to dispose of
household batteries and cell phone batteries in a convenient
box located at the front entrance of the school. A $2500 prize
and a $1500 prize will be awarded to schools that collect the
most used batteries. So let’s do our part to keep harmful toxins
out of our landfills and recycle materials appropriately.
St. Mary of the Angels is committed to preserving our
environment. Let's work together to make this initiative about
change and preservation.

Driveway Safety and Walk to School Wednesday
In an effort to make our driveway safe and to help out and save
energy we are once again asking parents/guardians to consider
the benefits of walking to school. We have implemented
Walking Wednesdays and we know that students are enjoying
the healthy alternative! Make every day a walk to school day!
Water Fountains
Contact Us
Thank-you to our wonderful Catholic
School Council parents! They have
helped us this year by funding the
installation of 3 new water fountains
at our school. These fountains support
our healthy schools initiative as
students no longer need to bring any
water bottles that also need to be
recycled. Instead, they can bring
refillable bottles.

Healthy Lunches
Bringing healthy lunches to school is another way that we can save our environment and our health.
We encourage students to eat healthy lunches that consist of foods that are not processed or that
require excess packaging. Healthy eating habits present students with a life-long opportunity to make
responsible choices about what they eat and how they can also help our earth to stay healthy too!
