Meters Soil Box for Soil Resistivity Measurement For quick and accurate measurement of resistivity of a sample of soil, water, or other electrolyte. For use in the field or laboratory. For quick and accurate measurement of resistivity of a sample of soil, water, or other electrolyte. For use in the field or laboratory. M. C. Miller soil boxes can be used to satisfy both the ASTM (G57) and AASHTO (T288) Standard methodologies. The M. C. Miller soil boxes have a 1cm multiplier value if used in the 4 electrode configuration (ASTM Standard) and multiplier values of 0.67cm and 0.57cm for the small and large boxes, respectively, in the case of the two electrode configuration (AASHTO Standard). Use the SOIL BOX with: • Miller 400A or Miller 400D resistance meters • Any model MCM multi-combination meter. • Nilsson Model 400 soil resistance meter. • Megger. • Ammeter and Voltmeter or Milli-Ammeter and Milli-Voltmeter with external batter Made of Plexiglass, with rounded corners for easy cleaning. orners - Rounded for easy cleaning Inside Dimensions Large: 1.5”’ wide by 8.75” long by 1.25” deep 3.937cm wide x 22.23cm long x 3.190cm deep Small: 1.16” wide x 4.39” long x .94” deep 2.946cm wide x 11.15cm long x 2.3876 deep Soil Resistivity: The dimensions of each box and the pin spacings have been chosen so that the soil resistivity value (expressed in Ohm-centimeter), is the same as the measured soil resistance value (in Ohms). When used with any MCM multi-combination meter (or separate volt and ammeter), and external battery, the resistivity of the sample can be determined as follows: RESISTIVITY = [(Change in Potential Between Pins, or Delta V) / (Change in Current, or Delta l)] x 1cm Soil Box Test Leads: Set consisits of four(4) 2-foot long cables: • 2 Black • 2 Red each with banana plug and pointed plug ends. Notes: 1. When using multimeters, be sure readings on both meters are obtained simultaneously. 2. Readings must be in volts and current must be in amps (or mV and mA) to obtain result in ohm-cm. 3. Multiplication factor for MCM Soil Boxes is 1cm. 4. When used with the Miller 400A Resistance meter or Megger, no calculations are necessary because the multiplication factor is 1cm. Therefore, the resistivity value of the sample can be read directly off the meter dial. Refer to the instruction sheet included with each meter for additional information.
