GRANTA MI
PACKAGE
GRANTA MI:Additive Manufacturing Package
Manage, access, and analyze the materials and process
information required for effective development and
production of additively-manufactured parts.
GRANTA MI:Additive Manufacturing™ is a new software package that bridges
the requirements of R&D, part design, simulation, production, and the supply
chain. It enables you to develop understanding of materials and processes
within this rapidly evolving technology and to build an Additive Manufacturing
knowledge-base that can help reduce R&D costs and support qualification and
certification of parts.

The problem
or qualification problems
Additive Manufacturing (‘AM’ or ‘3D printing’) is a new and rapidly-developing
technology with huge promise for making topologically-optimized parts with
optimal cost and performance. But scale-up and implementation create many
challenges, requiring an understanding of complex interactions between part
design, materials, production processes, and part performance. Significant
investments are made in R&D to make high performance parts, research designs
and materials, and optimize production processes. Aims include reducing the
variability of processes and producing unique parts ‘right first time’.

Apply the Senvol
Database™ to select
machines and materials
Progress requires effective use of large quantities of specialist information. First,
you must understand the fast-evolving landscape of machines and materials
in order to set up a research or manufacturing project. These programs then
generate huge amounts of data on material properties, process parameters, test
data, simulation, and qualification of parts. How can we make best use of this
data? How do we avoid lost data, with resulting waste of time and investment?
How can we enable multi-disciplinary teams to collaborate? Can we ‘future
proof’ to minimize downstream problems with qualification or certification?

The MI:Additive Manufacturing Solution
Sharing industry
best practice
Senvol Database™—select machines and materials
The MI:Additive Manufacturing
Package has been developed
based on experience gained
from Granta’s participation in
several leading AM projects.
The Senvol Database™ is the leading reference
resource for industrial AM machines and compatible
materials. Browse and search based on material type,
property, or compatible machines. Compare machines
based on supported processes, manufacturer, part
size, cost, or materials. Make the right choice first time.
Capture and analyze vital AM data
GRANTA MI is the leading materials information
management system. Apply this proven software to
capture all vital AM data for your team, enterprise, or
research project in one place, with full traceability.

The GRANTA MI:Additive Manufacturing Package
includes a data structure (‘schema’) based on extensive
experience from world-leading AM projects. Flexible admin tools let you tailor this
template to your specific requirements, so that you get up-and-running quickly.

•
Import ‘logfiles’ directly from AM machines
Store process parameters, extract logged data for specific builds, link this
information to supplier data on the batches of material used to make a part
Capture test and inspection results and feed this data into statistical analyses
that determine mechanical properties
Compare and analyze data to deepen understanding of parts and processes
Export to simulation; capture results to help optimize part design and production
Create an ‘audit trail’ for future qualification and certification of parts.
Bridge materials supply, R&D, part design, simulation
An essential feature is the ability to capture data throughout the AM
workflow. The database template defines over 800 attribute types relating
to AM, including the ability to capture:
•
•
•
•
•
Material details—supplier property data, material batch data, cost...
Machine and calibration details—configure for your preferred machines
Build data—powder or wire build parameters, laser properties, inprocess analysis data...
Characterization data from parts—specimen details, microstructure,
porosity, tensile tests, residual stress data, creep data...
Simulation data—inputs, parameters, outputs for further analysis..
For example, the AMAZE
project involves 28 corporations
and research institutions in
developing rapid production
of
large
defect-free
AM
metallic components. Granta
captures and securely shares
project data. This enables: data
comparison, better production
knowledge, process refinement,
simulation integration, and R&D
coordination.

Support collaboration
GRANTA MI is designed for collaboration—within your team, across your
enterprise, or between organizations. Key features that enable this include:
access control, so each user sees only data relevant to their role; version
control, to manage changing data; ‘remote import’ capabilities, which make
it simple to upload data from anywhere; and straightforward web browser
based access, so that anyone can get data, when and where they need it.
