Dementia is a mixed process – requiring several
insults to lead to brain dysfunction. Join us and
meet Dr. Bill Logan, Jr. as he addresses how
vascular disease (atherosclerosis) is usually
involved in dementia. He’ll also discuss the best
dementia prevention strategies based on research,
which are diet, particularly the Mediterranean diet,
and physical activity. Don’t miss this excellent
opportunity to meet Dr. Logan, a long-time
physician in Greenville, who is board certified in
Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Care.
He has been serving seniors in the upstate since
2002. His passion is innovative, compassionate,
and senior-focused primary care for patients.
Your thyroid gland is a small structure in your neck
that plays a huge role in your health. This important
gland produces hormones that are essential to the
proper functioning of vital organs such as your
brain, heart, kidneys, and liver. Among other things,
these hormones play key roles in metabolism – the
process by which you get energy from food. As we
age, we’re more likely to develop thyroid disorders.
In addition to being more common with age,
thyroid problems are more common in women
than men and they also tend to run in families.
Join us and meet Dr. J. Kyle Horton, when he
will discuss the effects of aging on thyroid health
and bone health. He will also discuss the challenges
of diabetes during the aging process.

Exploring Your Energy
Centers – The Chakras
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
ST. FRANCIS Millennium MOB
2 Innovation Drive, Greenville, 29607
Electro-photonic analysis has proven the existence
of Chakras – energy centers within our bodies that
are impacted by our experiences, thoughts and
emotions and, in turn, impact our attitudes and our
health. Chakras are a critical component of holistic
health practices to address the whole person, not
just the physical body.
In this 8-week series of classes, participants will learn
about their chakras, conduct personal assessments
to determine the state of their chakras, experience
relaxing guided meditations to balance and
strengthen the chakras and learn natural chakra
therapies to help them live life more authentically
and abundantly.
The series will be presented by Brenda Verdone,
Certified Natural Health Practitioner, graduate
of Trinity School of Natural Health, and certified
yoga teacher. All classes will be held on Fridays,
September 23 – November 18 (no class October 7).
$32 pp (series of 8 sessions)
Pre-registration is required. Class size is limited.
Do some early Christmas shopping and treat
your spouse and/or a friend to a LifeWise

stocking stuffers and as members they’ll
also be able to join you for the Christmas

Possum Kingdom Creamery
Timberock & The Hopkins Farm
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6
This special day will begin at a small family farm
and a licensed Grade A raw milk dairy and
creamery located near Belton, SC, in a community
locals affectionately call “Possum Kingdom.” They
offer delicious raw goat milk, soft fresh farmstead
goat cheese, marinated feta cheese in two flavors
and farm fresh eggs. The dairy goats at the farm
are the Lamancha breed. We’ll visit baby goats,
view the milking parlor and milk room and meet
Teddy, the Llama, Sarah Beth, the pot-bellied pig,
and more
of their very special animals. We’ll finish our tour
in the farm store where we’ll see into the cheese
room, shop and sample varieties of their delicious
cheeses and goat milk. Cheeses and eggs are for
sale at the farm.
Our next stop will be Timberock & The Hopkins
Farm where we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at
approximately 11:30 prepared by Agnew Hopkins,
S T. F R A N C I S L I F E W I S E | W I S E W O R D S
a Johnson and Wales trained chef. The Hopkins
Farm is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places, serving as a fully self-sustaining landmark
for over seven generations of the Hopkins family.
The poultry farm provides some of the region’s
finest sustainably-raised eggs, heritage chickens,
turkeys, guineas, geese and ducks.
During the Revolutionary War, the only battle
fought in the upcountry of South Carolina took
place on Dec. 22, 1775, on the boundary of the
present day Hopkins Farm. It was named the
Battle of the Great Cane Brake.
$55 pp Price includes motorcoach transportation
departing at 9:00 am from the ST. FRANCIS
millennium MOB parking lot, lunch with gratuity,
admissions, tours and taxes. Space is limited please register promptly! *Plan to bring a small
