Understanding how these parts of the writing process are distinct and separate is crucial to your success as a writer. While editing has its place in terms of correctness and style (grammar mistakes, spelling errors, and flexible usage, for instance), the heavy lifting takes place during revision. To facilitate this, we will prioritize revision strategies between global and local concerns. In particular, we’ll look at how to make meaningful changes to content and structure. Presented by: Jan Stallard Audience Awareness & Voice During Revision Tuesday, April 10, 7:00 PM ET Workshop Link: http://khe2.adobeconnect.com/audience0410/ There are many aspects of writing to consider during the revision process. One of the most important considerations is audience. Whom are you writing to, and are you reaching that audience for the purpose you intend? The other thing to consider is how you are speaking to that audience, which is where voice comes in. In this workshop, Ann will show you ways to ensure your writing is especially crafted toward your intended audience. Presented by: Ann Reich Revising for Meaning Thursday, April 12, 2:00 PM ET Workshop Link: http://khe2.adobeconnect.com/revisingformeaning0412/ Revision is a critical part of the composing process, yet many writers mistakenly think that identifying and correcting errors lie at the heart of revision. Revision, however, addresses not only sentence-level issues that help writers polish their prose, but it also requires the writer to consider the larger, more substantive issues such as structure, organization, unity, meaning, and language use. This workshop discusses the role of macro-level revision concerns in one’s writing and explores a variety of strategies to help the writer revise with purpose. Presented by: Carrie Hannigan Page 3 April Workshop Schedule: Volume Revision1, Issue 1 Benefits of Post-Draft Outlining Tuesday, April 17, 1:00 PM ET Workshop Link: http://khe2.adobeconnect.com/postdraft0417/ It may seem strange to think about outlining after you have written a draft and you are moving into the revision stages, but post-draft outlines can be extremely helpful. During this workshop, Stephanie will show you how to put together a post-draft outline and discuss ways to use this outline during the revision process. Presented by: Stephanie Thompson Writing Concisely Thursday, April 26, 7:00 PM ET Workshop Link: http://khe2.adobeconnect.com/writingconcisely0426/ Writing concisely does not mean taking out detail. It does not always mean trimming your words either. Concise writing is clear writing that uses only necessary words to convey the meaning you intend. In this workshop, Ellen will show you how to review your writing during the revision process to ensure your meaning is clear and focused. Presented by: Ellen Manning How to Revise Your Paper After Paper Review Friday, April 27, 2:00 PM ET Workshop Link: http://khe2.adobeconnect.com/paperreview0427/ Many students use the Writing Center Paper Review service, but sometimes there is confusion on how to revise your paper once you receive it back with comments. In this workshop, Joni will explain what holistic review is and how to take the comments you receive in paper review and revise so that you end up with a better, stronger paper in all areas of your writing. Presented by: Joni Boone Revision Strategies Saturday, April 28, 1:00 PM ET Workshop Link: http://khe2.adobeconnect.com/revisionstrategies0428/ Revision can begin only when the other major steps of the writing process are complete: prewriting and research, thesis development, and drafting. Revision involves editing and proofreading, and this workshop provides you with techniques to focus on those two aspects of writing, which are appropriate for the latter stages of the writing process.
