Laney, Jr. was born and reared in Conway, South Carolina, known to many as “The Gateway to Myrtle Beach.” His parents were educators in the Horry County School System. Dr. Laney earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from South Carolina State University, a Master of Public Administration from Atlanta University and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Clark-­‐Atlanta University. He has received commendations in 1994 from The Graduate School of Louisiana State University for his office playing a major role for increasing the African-­‐American graduate student enrollment from 4.8% when he arrived in 1992 to 7.5% in 1995, recruited and enrolled twelve national achievement scholars, 1998 and 1999, the first in Lincoln University’s history as well as the second and third largest classes in Lincoln’s history 2001 and 2002. His office also enrolled the largest number of new students in Tuskegee’s history in the Fall of 2007. He is currently the Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies and Research at Tuskegee University. He is responsible for recruiting and admissions of prospective students as well as providing academic and student services to enrolled graduate students. This involves collaboration with various offices such as the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Marketing and communications, Office of International Education, Faculty, etc. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Dean in the Office of Graduate Studies, Dr. Laney served as a Tenure-­‐Track Assistant Professor of Education and Assistant Coordinator of Graduate Programs in the School of Education. He was responsible for teaching two undergraduate courses and developing master degree programs in Instructional Leadership, Higher Education, Educational Counseling and Educational Psychology. Previously, he served Tuskegee as its Vice President/Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management for approximately seven years. The scope of his oversight was managing, directing and implementing recruitment and admission policies and procedures for the university. Dr. Laney has spent approximately 23 years in enrollment services at selected public and private institutions including Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, Louisiana State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Laney is a member of several professional and civic organizations; Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (SACRAO), American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (AACRAO), National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals (NGAP) and Who’s Who in America. Dr. Laney has served as a presenter at regional and national association conferences.
