AT02 - Introductory Analog Communications
The AT02 teaching set comprises:
CT20 ANACOM 1/1 (DSB/SSB AM
transmitter) and 1/2 (DSB/SSB AM
receiver) trainers.
CT21 ANACOM 2 (FM communications)
trainer.
CT7 Audio input module.
CT8 Audio output module.
CS1 Set of 36 x 4mm leads.
PS20 power supply.
AT02 IM Curriculum manual,
instructor's guide and student
workbook.
Additional items required:
Oscilloscope
Function Generator
If the study module is to be used in a
ClassAct computer managed learning
environment, then a student PC will also
be required.
The AT02 teaching set introduces students
to the fundamental principles of amplitude
and frequency modulation through a wide
range of hands-on activities.
The teaching set includes a curriculum
manual, a DSB/SSB AM
transmitter/receiver system, an FM
communications trainer, and audio
modules allowing the transmission of
sound.
When used in conjunction with a student
personal computer (PC), the curriculum
manual is fully compatible with the
ClassAct computer managed learning
system.
The curriculum manual is divided into a
series of chapters. Each covers a specific
topic area and provides background
theory, practical activities and student
assessment questions.
Each chapter is designed around a list of
performance objectives. These objectives
are used by the ClassAct management
system to generate a student competency
report.
An instructor’s guide is included, providing
solutions to all of the questions and
practical activities contained in the
curriculum manual.
Typical topic areas include:
An Introduction to Amplitude
Modulation.
DSB AM Transmitter and Receiver.
Single Sideband AM Systems.
Locating Faults in DSB and SSB AM
Transmission Systems.
FM Modulators.
FM Frequency Demodulators.
Locating Faults in FM Transmission
Systems.
Typical activities include:
Draw the frequency spectrum of a
double sideband AM wave.
Measure the depth of modulation of an
AM wave.
Recognize and investigate the operation
of a double sideband AM
superheterodyne receiver.
Recognize how a receiver can recover
the information signal from a single
sideband AM transmission.
Identify the function and operation of an
automatic gain control circuit.
Diagnose faults on a DSB AM
transmission system.
Identify the main characteristics of an
FM transmission system.
Compare the performance of detuned
resonant, quadrature and phase-locked
loop FM demodulators.
Recognize the operation of foster-seeley
and ratio FM demodulators.
Diagnose and locate faults in an FM
communications system.
