What are the PRIDE in our people awards?
2 // PRIDE AWARDS 2016 Faqs 01
What are the PRIDE in our people awards?
This year our Trust is again inviting nominations for our staff PRIDE Awards. This year we
want to recognise how our people deliver great care and service every day.
The Awards recognise and celebrate the hard work, dedication and excellence of our people.
Our PRIDE behaviours of passion, responsibility, innovation, drive and empowerment were
introduced in 2013 and became the name of our awards that year.
Awards will be announced and presented at the annual Long Service and PRIDE in our
People Awards ceremony later in the year.
02
What make a good nomination?
To nominate an individual or team decide which award category they fit into, how they meet
the criteria and complete the online or paper based nomination form.
It is important to look closely at the criteria for each award and clearly demonstrate how the
person or team you are nominating meets them. If you are nominating a corporate team or
non-clinical service you should still be able to link their work to improvements in services and
ultimately to patient care.
It will be beneficial if you are clear as to how our Vision and PRIDE behaviours have been
shown by the person or team you are nominating.
Our vision is to provide outstanding healthcare to our community delivered with PRIDE.
03
What are the award categories?
The aim of the Awards is to recognise and celebrate the achievements and commitment
of individuals and teams. Runners up and winners will have consistently demonstrated and
delivered excellent examples of team working, commitment, dedication, leadership and
innovation and are role models of professionalism, courtesy, caring and compassion.
Nominations must give concrete examples of how these have been demonstrated. Judges
will be looking for evidence of excellence. Detailed below is information on what each award
represents as a prompt to what should be detailed in a nomination.
Outstanding Service
Individual or team who consistently performs over and above the highest standards, that
live and demonstrate our PRIDE behaviours of passion, responsibility, innovation, drive and
empowerment
Outstanding patient care
Individual or team who deliver our Trust vision of placing excellence in patient care at the
centre of all we do in healing, caring for and serving our community

05
Who can nominate?
Trust staff can nominate for all the awards with the exception of the Hospital Hero award
which is nominated by members of the public.
You can nominate more than once in any category and can nominate the same service or

nomination.
If nominating the same person or team in more than one category please ensure supporting
information reflects the specific criteria for each award.

4 // PRIDE AWARDS 2016 Faqs 06
Who can be nominated?
All staff providing and supporting Trust services can be nominated.
07
Are nominations from a team or group of individuals acceptable?
Yes they are.
08
Can I nominate myself, a friend or family member?
The awards are an opportunity to recognise and reward the impact and affect our people
have on others. To ensure a robust and fair process from nominations through to judging we
are unable to accept these nominations.
09
How do I nominate?
There are two nomination forms. One is for internal nominations and one is for the public to
nominate a Hospital Hero.
The internal form is available on the Trust intranet.
The Hospital Hero form is available on the Trust website.
Paper copies of both forms are also available from the Information Desks at King George and
Queen’s Hospitals.

What happens after I submit my nomination?
All nominations are sorted into the appropriate award category. Judging will take place in
August 2016.

How are the winners selected?
Nominations will be considered by two judging panels who will both look for evidence
nominees demonstrate our Trust PRIDE behaviours of passion, responsibility, innovation, drive
and empowerment.
We ask nominees to help the judges by:
jj
selecting the most appropriate award category for your nomination
jj
clearly stating why you are nominating
jj
giving factual examples of the PRIDE behaviours the nominee has demonstrated
jj
including relevant detail such as dates
Each of the awards will have a separate initial judging panel who will select three
nominations for forwarding to a second panel who will select the overall winner for all the
awards.
The initial judging panels may forward nominations to be considered under a different award
category if there are reasonable grounds to do so and this is in the interest of the nominee.
Judging panels will be made up of Trust Non Executive Directors, Directors, Managers,
representatives of the Charity and our Improving Patient Experience Group.
There will be no overlap in membership of the two judging panels.
The Trust Chief Executive and Trust Chair will be part of the second judging panel.
Judges must declare any interest or conflict of interest and will not be involved in judging a
category if these apply.
All information submitted to the judges will be kept confidential. The judging panel decisions
are final.
Award winners will be announced at a Long Service and PRIDE Awards Ceremony later in the
year.
13
What is the long service and PRIDE awards ceremony?
This will be an evening event that celebrates staff and volunteers with long service, those
shortlisted for an award and where award winners will be announced.
We are able to hold this ceremony because of the generous support we receive from our
Hospital Charity and partner organisations, Sodexo and Catalyst.
With the introduction of PRIDE we wanted to create a real sense of occasion and as a result
were able to invite all shortlisted nominees to the event at which the overall winner for each
award was announced.
We combine the Staff PRIDE Awards with our Long Service Awards.

What are the long service awards
The Trust values the contribution and commitment of our staff and volunteers. Our long

certificate and vouchers.
Volunteers with 10 years contribution are also invited and are presented with a badge and
certificate.
15
Who is invited to the long service and PRIDE awards ceremony?
Staff with long service, shortlisted nominees, award winners and their guests.

The Trust Board and Executive members are also invited with management representatives
from each of our Directorates.
16
How are nominees acknowledged if they are not invited to the
awards ceremony?
All nominees will receive a certificate and letter from the Chief Executive after the Awards
