Making sure Webtec understood all processes and ensuring a proper adoption of the system by the users. Because EDI can be complicated and not easy to pick up and run with, Webtec needed someone experienced and so the TIE Kinetix consultants did the actual mapping and Webtec worked with Epicor to set up the system, managed the testing and coordinated the project. Their extensive EDI knowledge and experience working with the Epicor integrated EDI solution, ensured efficient mapping and processes and a solid implementation” says Jane Giddings, IT Process Manager at Webtec. Although the implementation process took longer than expected, partly due to the thorough testing processes of Webtec’s customer in the USA and partly due to communication issues because of the time difference, Jane found that taking the step by step approach helped gain sufficient insight into EDI. “The vision of implementing EDI was always to the future. They found that managing a partner account has become a lot more efficient. They are spending less time on it because everything is now automated. In addition, Webtec has set up dashboards and BAM’s in their Epicor ERP system to monitor and measure the processes, making it easier to manage. “The time saving EDI has brought is significant. It clearly gives them a competitive advantage. Smooth integration with Epicor ERP Webtec is currently using an Epicor 9 version making use of Service Connect and are planning to upgrade to a newer version making use of Direct Import. It was an advantage for Webtec to be able to start using EDI with Service Connect and not having the requirement to first upgrade the E9 system. This is because the US customer required EDI urgently, and waiting for a suitable time to upgrade would have been a problem for Webtec. Although it required some work to get EDI up and running using Service Connect, the upgrade to the newer Epicor 9 version making use of Direct Import for EDI, should be an easy and smooth process not disturbing existing EDI already in use.
