Introduction
•
INDIA
Information regarding type of household was collected during the
second phase of census i.e. Population Enumeration 2011. Similar
information was collected during 2001 census also. The type of
households are Normal, Houseless and Institutional. The
individuals living in these households are called Normal
population, Houseless population and Institutional population.
• On the basis of this information, “Primary Census Abstract Houseless population: 2011” is generated.
• Houseless Population is not returned in Lakshadweep.

Definition Adopted
Houseless Household
Households which do not live in buildings or Census
houses but live in the open or roadside, pavements, in hume-pipes,
under fly-overs and staircases, or in the open in places of worship,
mandaps, railway platforms, etc., are to be treated as Houseless
households. Houseless Households are covered on the night of
28th February, 2011.
