Diocese of Toowoomba Catholic Education Board Policy Opening, Closing, Relocation and Modification of Schools and Other Educational Buildings Rationale Catholic Education is an integral part of the pastoral strategy of the Church in the Diocese of Toowoomba. It has a significant role in evangelisation, faith and spiritual development across the Diocese. The development of schools in the Diocese of Toowoomba and accountability to governments has led to the establishment of a school system. This system is a legitimate ministry of the Church. It seeks to balance changes, needs, wants and aspirations of our society, with responses from parish and school communities and diocesan authorities. This encompasses educational and demographic demands affecting spiritual, social, cultural, industrial and political dimensions. The Diocese of Toowoomba must consider the areas of population growth or decline together with community needs to meet the demands for Catholic Education. This requires a continual process of planning and development for Catholic Education in accordance with the policies of the Catholic Education Board. Values Catholic Education values good stewardship encompassing facilities that are educationally appropriate, adequately resourced, environmentally responsible, safe and aesthetically pleasing. Policy Statement The provision of the facilities for Catholic Education in the Diocese of Toowoomba will be a planned response to educational need. The process will be collaborative, consultative and linked to the mission for education of the parish (for parish schools) and the Diocese. This mission will encompass people, resources and ethos.
