‘Father’s Love Letter’ that had
unexpectedly reached millions of people
at www.FathersLoveLetter.com

Father-heart through international travel and the ongoing development of media
resources that are freely available at fathersloveletter.com, 365promises.com and

What gives us our
identity?
Identity is very important - who we really are.
Suffering identity theft - what does that do to
us?
- vulnerable
- fearful
- alone
- violated
- sense of injustice
- lost our dignity and maybe our reputation
But that is what has happened to us
We have lost our true identity
And sometimes we don’t even know it has been
stolen
The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy - he has
stolen our true identity
We were made in the image of God, to be his
children
His desire is that we would call him Father
But the human heart has turned away from him
He has not changed - he only has one Plan A
Like Cain we have become restless wanderers
on the face of the earth (Gen 4:12)
We try and do everything by our own
strength (Gal 3:3)
Striving, perfectionism, achievement, fear of
failure become our hallmarks
Instead of relying on our Father we rely on
our own strength, our abilities, our
accomplishments, our status, our wealth,
our position, our lifestyle - in fact ON US!
Leads to a fear based life - opposite of love.
Love drives out fear. Love trusts and relies on
a Father
Try and prove our acceptability
Gal 1:10 - “For am I now seeking the approval of
man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I
were still trying to please man, I would not be a
servant of Christ”
Where is the work of grace that says it has all
been done for us?
What do we need to recover?
An invitation:
“...but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love
of God is perfected. By this we may know that we
are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to
walk in the same way in which he walked.”
1 John2:5-6 ESV
After three days they found him in the temple, sitting
among the teachers, listening to them and asking them
questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his
understanding and his answers. And when his parents
saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to
him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your
father and I have been searching for you in great
distress.” And he said to them, “Why were you
looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in
my Father's house?” And they did not understand the
saying that he spoke to them. And he went down with
them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to
them. And his mother treasured up all these things in
her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in
stature and in favour with God and man.
Luke 2:46-52 ESV
Totally secure in his identity, even as a 12 year old
boy
Amplified Bible - verse 49
How is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not
see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me
to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My
Father’s business?
This is walking as Jesus walked - being about our
Father’s business, totally occupied with what Father
has for us.
Everything about Jesus’ ministry focussed on sonship
Matthew 3:16-17 Father’s affirmation when Jesus was baptised
Matthew 4:3 Satan tempting Jesus in the wilderness
Matthew 17:1-5 On the Mount of Transfiguration
John 19:7 The leaders’ anger with Jesus
John 3:34-35 Jesus was totally secure For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he
gives the Spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son
and has given all things into his hand.
Jesus lived his life pleasing his Father - he only did
what he saw his Father doing.
He walked in his Father’s footsteps
His obedience was not slavish duty but a desire of
his heart
He was a true son TO his Father
(not just a son OF the Father) - a big difference!
The central question for us is:
Does our identity and value come from what we
do or achieve, or is it dependent on what has
been done for us?
When we know the answer it leads to the
engine inside us (which is in overdrive) coming
to a place of rest and peace.
Rest = there is nothing more we need to do in
order to feel totally loved, valued and affirmed.
It has all been done........
