Client background This leading provider of open source software solutions makes high-quality, low-cost technology accessible. The company provides operating system platforms, middleware, applications, management products, support, training and consulting services. Business challenge The company sought to improve its existing security structure to advance its capabilities in the areas of data protection, reporting, usability and data hygiene in order to increase operational efficiency and streamline its governance processes. The company also wanted to enhance accuracy of the data displayed to its sales organization in order to improve sales performance, and reduce the amount of information that was available to employees across the organization in order to increase data security. To accomplish this, the company sought to create a new security structure with Salesforce. Therefore, the company sought a provider with advanced experience in implementing Salesforce solutions and knowledge of the functional view of the software. Having worked with Accenture since 2005 to implement a number of innovative Salesforce solutions to complex work problems, the company chose Accenture to help it create the new security structure. How Accenture helped Accenture led the implementation and delivery of a private security model for the company, an effort that included a complete security redesign, optimization of reporting capabilities across all business units, and standardized reporting across the sales organization. Accenture utilized a Conference Room Pilot (CRP) approach to review the current state of the company’s security model. The benefits of using this approach included rapid demonstrations of process and system solutions, and the ability for the client to see capabilities in the context of business needs. The CRP approach was executed over the course of seven months, leveraging Salesforce Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) for the technical and design review and validation, and Salesforce technical architecture for code review and design review. Later, during User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Accenture used a Project Management Organization (PMO) toolkit to improve tracking of business needs and information security requirements by: • Effectively distributing test scripts • Tracking results and defects and enabling transparency during the testing phase • Ensuring all project information was captured in one central location Salesforce and other salesforce.com, inc. marks are used here with permission. These tools brought a high level of transparency and communication that was extremely valued by the company’s team and resulted in a more efficientlyrun project. Accenture used a blended team to deliver the new security solution. Much of the development and research was completed at the Accenture Indian Delivery Center (IDC); a team based at the company headquarters worked in close collaboration with the company’s employees to address critical business issues related to implementation of the security solution. Utilizing resources in different geographies enabled the company to significantly manage costs and obtain a higher return on investment (ROI) by 30-70 percent. High performance delivered Accenture delivered the security redesign on-time and on-budget. The company has significantly enhanced its security protection levels and is benefitting from a corporate-level governance policy and related processes that keep its information safe, organized and effective. Users now see only the data required for their appropriate access level, which has reduced access level misuse within the security system by 85 percent. By implementing standardized reporting across the entire sales organization, the company has streamlined the number of reports needing to be made by 60 percent. Across the enterprise, all users of the system have benefitted from enhanced reporting, clearer and more relevant information, greater usability, increased operational efficiency and improved data hygiene. Due to the redesign, the company now has a high performance security capability that keeps its data protected and organized, so that the company’s employees can better concentrate performing on their work duties without worrying about data theft or misuse by external and internal threats.
