SUPPORTING YOUR BUILDING DESIGN PROJECT
The ComEd Smart Ideas® New Construction Service team
supports your project’s goals while offering the opportunity
to explore energy-saving ideas and strategies. These
strategies can offer long-term energy and cost savings for
your project.
Financial incentives and expert technical assistance are
offered to encourage design teams and building owners
to surpass standard practices and exceed current Illinois
Energy Conservation Code requirements. The program
includes comprehensive energy modeling services which
describe the relationships between building systems and
energy-efficient technologies to help building owners and
design teams with the decision-making process long before
design documents are complete.
IS THIS PROGRAM A GOOD FIT FOR YOUR PROJECT?
T O PA R T ICIPAT E YOUR P RO JE C T S HOUL D BE:
•New construction or major renovation of an existing space
• Early in project planning (concept development or
schematic design is best)
• A project that includes significant beyond-code upgrades
in the final scope, improving at least two of the following
four building systems: envelope, primary HVAC
equipment, lighting, and qualified refrigeration systems
• Designed to be more energy efficient than current
International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) for
commercial buildings
•Commercial, industrial, or multifamily building greater
than 5,000 square feet in area
• Private or nonprofit facility
• Located in ComEd service territory
HOW T O PA R T ICIPAT E

ontact us to verify eligibility, and apply for technical
assistance early in the project planning process. Projects
submitted too late may receive a reduced incentive rate,
or may be ineligible for new construction technical
assistance and incentives.
2. Submit the technical assistance application and any
preliminary design documents as soon as possible.
3. C
ollaborate with our team throughout the duration of
the project.
