Gen. Thomas L. Baptiste completed his 34 year military career as the Deputy Chairman, NATO Military Committee, Brussels, Belgium. The NATO Military Committee is the highest military authority in NATO and provides direction and advice on military policy and strategy to the North Atlantic Council, guidance to the NATO strategic commanders, and support to the development of strategic concepts for the Alliance. In this role, Lt Gen (Ret) Baptiste also served as the second most senior military advisor to the NATO Secretary General. Lt Gen (Ret) Baptiste graduated from California State University, Chico, CA in June 1973. Following commissioning from the Officer Training School, he was initially trained as a Navigator/Weapons Systems Officer and assigned to the F4 in 1974. After one operational tour he was competitively selected for Undergraduate Pilot Training and returned to the F-4 as a Pilot in 1978. In 1981, Lt Gen (Ret) Baptiste was handpicked to become part of the initial cadre of Instructor Pilots to stand-up the F-16 Training Wing at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL. Several other F-16 assignments followed including Commander, 72nd Fighter Training Squadron and Commander 52nd Operations Group. During two assignments in Washington D.C., he served as: the Director of Operations, Defense Nuclear Agency, and as the Assistant Deputy Director, International Negotiations, Directorate of Plans and Policy (J-5), the Joint Staff in the Pentagon. As a General Officer, he served in a number of joint and combined assignments to include: the Deputy Commander, Canadian NORAD Region, Winnipeg, Manitoba; the Commander, Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center, Colorado Springs, CO; and the Director of Plans (J-5), HQ NORAD, Peterson AFB, CO. Additionally during his final seven years on active duty, he served at three different levels within the NATO Alliance: first as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, HQ AIRSOUTH, Naples, Italy; next as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, Supreme HQ Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Mons, Belgium; and finally as the Deputy Chairman, NATO Military Committee, HQ NATO, Brussels, Belgium. A Command Pilot, Lt Gen (Ret) Baptiste accumulated nearly 3,000 flight hours in a variety of fighter and trainer aircraft. Peter focused on simulation in later years, and developed a keen interest in the application of computer games for military training. Peter departed the Army in 2005 and began work with the computer game developer Bohemia Interactive (http://www.bistudio.com). Peter led the development of the first version of the simulation platform Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2). Peter later took over the role of Managing Director of the Australian branch of the company, and more recently became CEO of the newly formed Bohemia Interactive Simulations, based in Prague. Peter is currently focused on bringing computer game technology to "serious" domains as an affordable alternative to traditional simulation. A native of Monterey, California, Captain Nakagawa is the son of a career A-6 Intruder Naval Aviator and was commissioned in 1986 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Southern California (USC). He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in April 1988 following flight training in Pensacola, Florida. Operational assignments include six deployments flying the A-6E Intruder and the EA-6B Prowler aircraft in the Attack Squadron Nine Five (VA-95) “Green Lizards,” Attack Squadron One Nine Six (VA-196) “Main Battery,” and Tactical Electronic Attack Squadron One Three Two (VAQ-132) “Scorpions.” During these assignments he flew attack and electronic attack missions in support of numerous military operations, including Classic Resolve, Ernest Will, Desert Storm, Fiery Vigil, Desert Strike, Deliberate Forge and Southern Watch. Ashore, Captain Nakagawa was selected for transition to the Aerospace Engineering Duty Officer (AEDO) community and held various flight test, engineering, and program management positions at Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) NAS Patuxent River, and Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) Naval Station San Diego. He also served in senior staff positions for the Navy Personnel Command (NPC PERS-43); the Program Executive Officer for Strike Weapons and Unmanned Aviation (PEO(W)); and for the Program Executive Officer for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEO C4I). Captain Nakagawa has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from USC; a Master of Science Degree in Aviation Systems Management from the University of Tennessee Space Institute; is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland; and is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps. In September of 2010, he became President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Central Florida. Bill helped plan and establish Goodwill’s first corporate division in Central Indiana and worked in a variety of positions beginning in 1974. In 1981, he became the Executive Director of Goodwill Industries of Upper South Carolina. From 1997 to 2010, he was President and CEO of the Goodwill Corporation in Coastal Georgia, headquartered in Savannah, Georgia. He has served on the national board of directors for Goodwill Industries International and on the Executive Council of Goodwill Industries. President National Training and Simulation Association Following graduation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, designation as a Naval Aviator and training in the F-14 Tomcat, Admiral Robb deployed nine times across the globe accumulating over 5000 hours and 1000 carrier landings. Following a tour flying Russian fighters in the Nevada desert, he commanded Fighter Squadron Fifty One, Carrier Air Wing Nine, the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), and Carrier Strike Group Seven. As a Flag Officer he managed all Naval Aviation Programs (N980) and was the Director of Navy Readiness (N43). With a staff of 250, IST is among the largest groups in the US focusing on research in modeling and simulation. Prior assignments for Dr. Shumaker include Superintendent for Information Technology at the Naval Research Laboratory, Director of the Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence, and Program Element Manager for Aircraft Technology at the Naval Air Systems Command. He has wide experience in computer science and computer engineering, with particular interest in human-computer interaction, adaptive systems, and software assurance. Dr. Shumaker has lectured, taught and published on a wide variety of computing topics with particular focus on intelligent decision systems and human-agent interaction. She is a former USAF NCO who worked as a Master Instructor and Field Training Operations Manager. After leaving the Air Force, she began her career in simulation and training on F-16 and F-22 aircrew and maintenance trainers, first as a Systems Engineer and then a Program Manager. She currently has over twenty-eight years experience supporting a variety of maintenance/operational training system programs for the Air Force, Navy, Army, and Marine Corps. She is both a Program Management and Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional (PMP/CMSP). Cyndi has been an I/ITSEC contributor and leader since 1994. She was selected by the NTSA executive committee to serve as the 2013 I/ITSEC Conference Chair, having previously served as Program Chair and Special Projects Coordinator. She served as Chair for Education Subcommittee in 1996 and Training Subcommittee in 2008.
