Architectural Specification Writer
TVA Architects is seeking a specification writer who will be an integral part of each design team
from Design Development through construction, collaborating with the entire project team to
ensure production of a complete set of design and construction documents and construction of a
sustainable and technically appropriate building.
QUALIFICATIONS
 10 years’ relevant experience as specifications writer
 Degree in architecture or related field required; professional registration preferred
 Proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam, e-SPECS and MasterSpec required
 Proficiency in Revit required
 CSI certification preferred
 LEED AP certification preferred
 Project management experience in architecture preferred
SKILLS
 Ability to produce a well-coordinated, detail-oriented, fully integrated Project Manual
 Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and produce results within deadline
 Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
 Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
 Knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, design trends, products,
construction methodology, building systems and material applications
 Knowledge of building envelope components, life safety and material requirements of the
following building / facility types: high-rise residential and office tower, healthcare and
laboratory, retail interiors, athletics/sports, and multi-family residential
 Knowledge of construction procedures and schedules
 Knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical
documents
PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES
 Assist architects and project designers with review and coordination of project
agreements relative to professional service and general condition issues
 Coordinate compliance with project requirements, institutional guidelines, TVA
standards, technical conditions, acceptable standards, and existing laws, rules,
regulations and codes
 Prepare and review procurement and contracting requirements, including Division 01
General Requirement sections
 Act as risk management resource for other project leaders
 Review drawings and other project information to write and edit specifications
 Review LEED scorecard and provide knowledgeable input on material product selection
for LEED certification
 Provide project budget input related to product and system value choices regarding cost
versus quality; participate in life cycle cost analysis




Assist project managers and architects with constructability analysis of systems and
materials
Provide technical advice and quality management reviews of drawings from design
development through construction document phases
Coordinate and review consultant technical specifications for conformance with TVA
standards
Assist project architects with shop drawing and product substitution review
OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES
 Conduct internal specifications training
 Provide continual development and improvement of TVA Master Specifications including
specialized content for project type or regional conditions as well as sustainable content
 Perform product research, assisting project designers with material selection and
system research
 Develop and maintain relationships with vendors
 Archive technical files to ensure consistent project milestone documentation
 Participate in developing and improving TVA document standards and best practice
procedures
 Maintain library of technical resources and contacts
