The Homebuilding Skills Partnership The Home Builders Federation (HBF) has launched a skills infrastructure programme to promote and support Workforce Development across the industry. The Homebuilding Skills Partnership (HSP) will operate nationally and has partnership funding to enable it to develop and operate for the next 4 years as it moves to a longer-term sustainable programme fully supported across the Homebuilding Industry. Current partners include HBF, CITB, NHBC, FMB and a number of Developers, Homebuilders and Supply Chain companies to provide a cross section of industry perspectives and ensure the wider views and needs are addressed. The purpose and objective of the HSP is: To develop, grow and sustain a national Partnership programme to promote and support workforce development across the home building sector A Leadership Board made up of members from across the industry will guide and direct the Partnership and define its operational parameters and priorities. HSP principal activities will address attracting new entrants into the industry, creating focussed and appropriate training and ensuring collaboration with the wider supply chain. The Board will appoint three Activity Groups to define and drive initiatives for each of these key areas. The HSP Leadership Board will hold its inaugural meeting in May 2016 and will nominate members of the Board to lead and chair the activity groups. The current environment in the industry provides opportunities for the HSP to promote, encourage and support investment in the workforce and provide benefits across the industry as its programme will: Develop an improved public identity for homebuilding Influence the development of a more professional, fully trained workforce Increase productivity and the value added per employee Improve the quality and relevance of industry training Co-ordinate the tackling of common workforce challenges Influence and leverage investment in skills to the benefit of the homebuilding The day to day activities of the HSP will be managed by a dedicated team tasked with initiating development of Homebuilding specific skills standards and identifying where training content needs to be amended. The team will develop a Training & Development Analysis tool for employers based on any agreed standards. The aim is to develop and pilot these with 20 companies by the end of the first year. In year two these programmes will roll out across the industry. Over the first 4 years HSP programmes will engage with over 3,500 companies, 40,000+ workers and some 180 Colleges and Training Providers. At the same time HSP will be working to enhance the image of Homebuilding to better attract new entrants into the industry. This will include all forms of media use and will have digital links with Partners and other agencies. A schematic model of HSP aims and objectives, the programme concepts and targeted outcomes is attached.
