IDRONAUT OCEAN SEVEN 3xx
CTDs DECK UNITS
MKPlus Deck Unit
The new MKPlus Deck Unit powers and interfaces the OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs with an auto-adaptive V32/V32bis modem to
optimize the full-duplex communication in real time, depending on the connection conditions. The communication speed of
14.400 bps over the oceanographic cable allows obtaining a higher transfer rate from the interfaced OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs.
Visual feedback is provided to the operator during communication to indicate the line quality and speed automatically selected
by the MKPlus modem.
The V32/V32bis telemetry modem has been added to the basic electronics and functions of the well-proven MK Deck Unit; up to
100 units were sold all over the world. The MKPlus Deck Unit provides high voltage telemetry power supply (220 VDC) to allow the
OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs to interface and power several additional probes. The MKPlus Deck Unit is housed in a 19" rackmountable metallic box and is designed for on-board operations. The MKPlus Deck Unit operates with: 115/220 VAC +/-10%, 5060 Hz +/- 5%. Telemetry power supply: 220 VDC (max 1A@12V).
Dimensions: 480x160x90. Weight: 3 Kg.
MK Deck Unit
The MK Deck Unit powers and interfaces, by coaxial oceanographic
cables the OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs with a personal computer. The
MK Deck Unit is equipped with a transceiver (modem) which allows halfduplex communication with the probe. The MK Deck Unit is housed in a
19" rack-mountable metallic box and is designed for on-board operations.
The MK Deck Unit provides high voltage telemetry power supply (220
VDC) to allow the OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs to interface and power
several additional probes. The MK Deck Unit operates with: 115/220
VAC +/-10%, 50-60 Hz +/- 5%.
Telemetry power supply: 220 VDC (max 1A@12V)
Dimensions: 480x160x90. Weight: 3 Kg.
Optionally, the MK Deck Unit can be housed in a plastic watertight
container similar to the one of the Portable Deck Unit
Portable Deck Unit
The telemetry Portable Deck Unit powers and interfaces by coaxial
oceanographic cables, the OCEAN SEVEN 3xx probes with a personal
computer. The Portable Deck Unit is equipped with a transceiver (modem)
which allows half-duplex communication with the probe. The Portable
Deck Unit is housed in a waterproof plastic case and is provided with an
internal mans rechargeable lead battery (12 VDC, 7 A/h) which permits
probe operation even in the absence of the mains supply. The Portable
Deck Unit comes complete with an international battery charger: 115/
220 VAC +/- 10%, 50-60 Hz +/- 5%. Telemetry power supply: 30 VDC
(max 0.3 A @ 12V). Dimensions: 340 x 300 x 16 mm. Weight 6.5 Kg.
Optionally, the Portable Deck Unit can be housed in a 19" rack-mountable
container. In this case, the internal battery is not present and the Portable
Deck Unit operates with the mains supply only.
OCEAN SEVEN Portable Reader
The OCEAN SEVEN Portable Reader is a portable lightweight and
extremely rugged reader based on a high-performance Intel® XScale™
processor and on the Windows Mobile™ software for Pocket PC. Through
this device, it is possible to perform the operations usually performed by
means of a portable personal computer but without all the limitations
that the use of a portable computer in the field and in hostile environments
normally implies, like: battery endurance, display reading under sunlight,
water and dust tightness, weight, etc. The “Portable Reader” interfaces
the OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs through a built-in RS232-C interface and
a dedicated terminal emulation programme, specifically developed for
the Windows Pocket PC operating system.
This programme interfaces the OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs and allows
the operator to directly dialogue with the probes thus performing: sensor
calibration, data acquisition, probe configuration, etc.
All these operations are possible thanks to the OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs smartness included in the management firmware.
The “Portable Reader” can operate for up to 15 hours continuously. Autonomy of the interfaced OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs
depends on the battery installed inside the probe.

Maximum communication speed between the deck unit and the OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs
Depends on the interfaced OCEAN SEVEN 3xx CTDs. Default value for all CTDs is 9k6 bps.
Performance is obtained using the 6.4 mm diameter (1/4 inch) Rochester cable type 1-H-255 which has an electrical resistance
of 23 Ω/km and a capacitance of 138pF/m
