Amsterdam - Paris
without changing traction unit
En route from Amsterdam to Paris a train passes through three different contact
wire voltages. No problem with electrics from Schaltbau: the vacuum circuit
breaker connects the train to the power supply; the voltage selector adapts
the vehicle configuration and the traction contactors work with both AC and
DC voltages.
With our control and signalling devices – from master controller to warning
tone generator – the train driver guides the train safely to its destination.

Equipment for driving cabs
and use for passengers
Schaltbau control devices such as master controllers, toggle switches, electronic buzzers as well as dead man’s
hadles and footswitches are to be found in all kind of trains all over the world. Being of modular design, they
are available both as standardized and customized components.Presenting driver’s desks and driving cabs in
modern design wil be easy with them. Popular Schaltbau products the passengers come in touch with are the
controls for their use in the compartments and displays like “WC occupied” as well as the emergency brake
handle in carriages and multiple-unit trains.
To handle UIC voltages safely and reliably is the trademark of Schaltbau switchgear such as the AC vacuum
circuit breaker, the disconnecting and earthing device, the H2/H3 high-voltage switchgear cabinets, the safety
contactor for such switchgear as well as sensors and controlgear. A new addition is the motor-driven disconnector and changeover switch. The contact pressure necessary for high currents is not created by these devices
with pressure springs but by screwing the contacts together. Similar to knife switches, this results in a considerably higher mechanical resonance frequency of the system.

and changeover units
High-voltage heaters
Since being set up more than 80 years ago, Schaltbau has been one of the pioneers in this field. The electrification of the railway brought with it a new type of heater that was supplied directly from the catenary. Our
radiators and tubular elements for air and water heaters are the backbone of the air-conditioning system and
supply of warm water in rail vehicles all over Europe, including the overtemperature protection devices.
Magnetic rail brake monitoring device
The device is designed to monitor and control the proper functioning of the electromagnetic track brakes by
measuring the currents of the magnets in both bogies. Information on the state of operation or failure of the
brake system is displayed by LEDs and issued as discrete output signals. The monitoring device comes with
touch detection indicating whether or not the brake magnets are actually making contact with the rail.
Connectors
Snap-action switches
Contactors
Rugged connectors for reliable connections between
vehicles and components – suitable for continuous
use in rail vehicles. Schaltbau railway connectors meet
the requirements of international railway standards,
such as UIC.
Schaltbau snap-action switches with positive opening
operation are unique throughout the world. They
are characterised by high quality, reliability and long
design life. Our snap-action switches are not only
much used in railway applications but also in all
applications where safety is a major requirement.
High-quality contactors have proven themselves in
the demanding railway environment for decades.
Their great variety of shapes and styles as well as their
suitability for all common control voltages make possible a host of applications.

With its voltage and frequency analyzer ZH1114
Schaltbau meets the requirements of modern
cross-border traffic.
The ZH1114 identifies the voltage ranges
according to UIC 550 and operates as electronic
control device for the Schaltbau changeover
unit, which adapts the individual loads of the
railway vehicle to the different detected supply
voltages. Additionally, the correct electrical
configuration is being tested by the device.
Schaltbau changeover units are designed for
adjusting electrical configurations of power
supplies and heating systems to a change of
voltage. They are applied in rail vehicles which
are used in cross-border service where they
have to cope with different high-voltage power
sources.
Required control signals are generated by the
corresponding voltage selector ZH1114.
The ZH842 H Series solid-state high-voltage
sensor signals high voltage applied to the train
line. The device supplies electrical loads, which
for the conservation of battery power are only
operated when high voltage is being applied,
with control voltage.
Mode of operation: The ZH842 H switches on
a potential-free relay contact as long as the
high voltage at the input terminals exceeds the
signalling voltage.

Motor-driven disconnector for traction inverters
Motor-driven changeover switch for auxiliaries
and DC applications in the medium power range
With 800/1,300 A continuous current the DM1115 is designed for use with
rail vehicles that are powered by a catenary. It is used as a disconnector
with potential isolation for traction inverters and is the cost-effective alternative to the widely used combinations of a switch with pressuere spring
contacts and a knife switch.
Its innovative switching system combines the long life of pressure-spring
contact switches and the high surge current strength of knife switches in
one device. Thus it can replace two separate switches - saving space
and costs.
With a current-carrying capacity of 200/300 A continuous current, this is a
high-current version of our proven changeover units up to 70 A - ensuring
high flexibility.
The motor-driven changeover switch is especially suited for use with
auxiliaries of railway vehicles and DC traction applications in the medium
power range.
Design to cost for an excellent cost/benefit ratio.

Disconnecting and earthing device
for single and multi-system rail vehicles
MG brake monitoring device
Disconnecting and earthing devices provide easy disconnecting of highvoltage equipment from a high-voltage train line and connect these parts
to ground potential to take away all electric energy which might rest in
capacitors and other components. This way they guarantee working safely
on disconnected and grounded high-voltage installations.
ZH2020: Compact device with load-breaking capability for mounting in
switchgear cabinets. With the proven C195 Series contactor mounted on
top of the device, it is possible to disconnect, with electric arc control, all
permissible loads in passenger coaches (UIC 550) from the train line and
earth them at the same time.
MG brakes consist of two electromagnets which are mounted between
the two axles of a bogie. In case of an emergency brake application, the
magnets are pneumatically lowered to the rails and supplied with energy
from the vehicle battery.
The MG brake monitoring device of Schaltbau is a complete electric control
