Plugging USB ETAP Key for the First Time
The USB ETAP key requires a driver (DS2490.sys) to work. This driver needs to be installed when
plugging the key into the machine for the first time after the installation of ETAP. The procedure below
shows how to perform the USB key setup.
1. Plug the USB ETAP key in one of the USB ports. The system automatically detects the new hardware, generates a
message and launches the ‘Found New Hardware’ Wizard.
2. Select ‘Yes, this time only’ on the Wizard and click on the ‘Next >’ button as shown on Figure 1.1
3. Select ‘Install the software automatically (Recommended)’ and click on the ‘Next >’ button as shown on Figure 1.2. The
system takes a few seconds to look for the proper file as shown on Figure 1.3.
4. Click on ‘Browse’ button on the ‘Files Needed’ dialog box as shown on Figure 1.4.

should be able to detect the key and ETAP should launch successfully.

Troubleshooting the USB ETAP Key
If ETAP failed to detect the USB key, go to the Device Manager (Start menu| Control Panel | System | Hardware |
Device Manager) and check if the key is displayed as shown on Figure 1.5.
If there is a USB Device entry with a yellow question mark as shown on Figure 1.7 that indicates an installation problem. At
this point there are two options:
a. Switch the USB ETAP key to another USB port and follow the procedure above from step 1.
b. Select the USB Device entry (with the yellow question mark). Right-click on the mouse and select Update Driver. This
launches the Wizard shown on Figure 1.1, then follow the procedure above from step 2.
