KIC InnoEnergy is a European company that brings together academics, businesses
and research institutes to make the maximum positive impact on sustainable energy in

The KIC InnoEnergy Highway® helps accelerate ventures and start-ups
KIC InnoEnergy’s Business Creation Services works to create new and successful
start-ups in the sustainable energy field. The KIC InnoEnergy Highway® offers a
tailored service to entrepreneurs to help them transform their business idea into a
successful venture. It acts as a one-stop shop, a single accelerator with various entry
points across Europe, and is unique in its specialisation in sustainable energy.
Along the Highway®, KIC InnoEnergy supports entrepreneurs in strengthening their
technology skills, developing business models, building expert teams and providing
access to finance. This comes together through KIC InnoEnergy’s extensive network of
partners across Europe; they provide the expertise and offer their services, and are
also among the first to adopt the innovative solutions that these ventures launch on the
market.
In addition, KIC InnoEnergy´s Highway® delivers a number of added value services to
entrepreneurs. KIC InnoEnergy commits itself to finding the first customer, and rather
than asking for a fee it invests, through equity participation, in those start-ups that it
believes can really make a difference.
Education
The KIC InnoEnergy Master School: creating the game changers of the future
The KIC InnoEnergy Master School is committed to creating the game changers of the
future, those with a pioneering mind set who are dedicated to making a real impact on
sustainable energy. Each of the two-year Master’s programmes offer training for
strengthening both technical and entrepreneurial skills through a learning-by-doing
approach.
Students take classes in at least two different European universities and specialise in
one of these sustainability fields: Energy Technologies, Clean Fossil and Alternative
Fuels Energy, Energy for Smart Cities, Renewable Energy, Environomical Pathways
for Sustainable Energy Systems, Smart Electrical Networks and Systems, and
Innovation in Nuclear Energy.
The European universities integrated into the KIC InnoEnergy Master School network
are: TU/Eindhoven and KU Leuven (Benelux), ParisTech, Grenoble INP and GEM
(France); UPC, IST and ESADE (Iberia); Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany),
AGH University of Science and Technology and SUT - Silesian University of
Technology (Poland) and KTH Royal Institute and Uppsala University of Technology
(Sweden).
The KIC InnoEnergy PhD School: from doctoral candidates to entrepreneurs
This programme is designed for doctoral candidates who seek technical excellence
through further studies and who also recognise the need to become equipped with an
entrepreneurial understanding of the sustainable energy area.
KIC InnoEnergy’s PhD School integrates the interests and needs of doctoral
candidates, its academic and industrial partners, future employers and the future
customers of new businesses. Throughout the programme KIC InnoEnergy connects
students to the company’s European network of partners.
The PhD School focuses on three key transitions within the energy sector: how to go
from idea to product, how to take an idea from the lab to the market and how to
transform a doctoral candidate into an entrepreneur.

KIC InnoEnergy is open for innovation project applications twice a year, when
prospective project partners may submit their innovative ideas to the company. KIC
InnoEnergy then evaluates the viability of these projects based on a set of assessment
criteria. Once viability is established, they join the KIC InnoEnergy technological
development programme, where the combined know-how of the project partner
network helps transform the research idea into a commercial product.
