EMERGENCIES
For all medical incidents, hazardous material spills, security incidents, fire, and other spills (either
large or in danger of entering the drainage system) ring extension 98777 from one of these
phones. These calls will be answered by the Airports Incident Control Room (ICR) and you will
have the appropriate response within minutes.
State your emergency, its location and your name and company. If you are not sure how serious it
is, call anyway for an investigation response.
If you are not near one of these phones you can use your cell phone by ringing 092568777. It
would be a good idea to have this as a pre-programmed number.
If you call the emergency in to your company base on a radio telephone, be sure to state the
emergency, its location, your name and ask them to ring ext 98777 or 2568777. (Some companies
may have a tie line so there may be additional digits added which you should have displayed near
every R/T base).
If the incident escalates or more information becomes available, ring back on 98777 to ensure the
correct teams are responded.
EMERGENCY TELEPHONES:
The attached chart indicates the location of emergency telephones around the aprons.
It is important that these phones are treated as an item of emergency equipment. We are often
finding the waterproof boxes being left open, filled with items of FOD or the phone being damaged
and not reported. Some of these phones may be wired in parallel so if one is left off the hook the
parallel phone may not work.
Any questions or feedback on the Operational Safety Instruction should be directed to Apron Tower
phone 256 8990 or by email to aot@akl-airport.co.nz
Remember the emergency it may be needed for could be one concerning you. If you have never
used one of these phones, find one in your work area and check it out to ensure you understand
how to use it. (NOTE: these phones do not call outside lines)
EMERGENCY FUEL SHUT OFF VALVE
In the event that you observe fuel pouring out of the ground, a hydrant or an aircraft that is being
filled, hit the red Emergency Fuel shut off switch that are located near every stand on the
international apron. Once activated this shuts down the entire hydrant fuelling system until Bulk
Fuel can reset the button.
In order to prevent delays to aircraft, ring the emergency number (ext 98777) or Apron Tower (ext
98991) immediately the shut off is activated so they can contact Bulk fuel with the details to have
the system reset.
EMERGENCY SHOWERS
Emergency showers are located in the vicinity of stands on the international and domestic aprons.
These showers are marked by yellow and green paint markings on the nearest building.
To activate the shower simply pull the coat hanger type handle down.
To activate the eye wash, push the foot pedal down for as long as necessary. Your company
procedures will cover the circumstances when these should be used.
