HT-4H High Temperature Silicone Acrylic PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A single component, low VOC, air-drying, high-gloss finish coat designed for medium temperature resistance. INTENDED USES This high-performance coating provides outstanding weathering properties and has excellent atmospheric resistance to most chemicals and both fresh and salt water. For protection of equipment such as stacks, cat crackers, boilers, heat exchangers, etc. which operate at temperatures up to 232ºC (450°F). Can be used to coat stainless steel surfaces since it is chlorine free. Remove all loose paint, mortar spatter, mill scale, and rust. New Surfaces: Steel Blast to near-white metal surface cleanliness in accordance with SSPC-SP10 or ISO8501-1:2007 Sa2½. Blast profile on steel should be 19 to 50 microns (0.75 to 2.0 mils ) in depth and be of a sharp, jagged, nature as opposed to a “peen” pattern (from shot blasting). Surfaces must be free of grit dust. HT-4H should be applied to cleaned surfaces as soon as possible to prevent re-rusting or contamination. Where necessary, remove weld spatter and where required smooth weld seams and sharp edges. Steel surfaces may be primed with HT-8 or Cathacoat 302H primers. Previously Painted Surfaces HT-4H may not be applied to existing coatings. All coatings must be removed and substrates treated as for New Surfaces. APPLICATION Mixing This material is a one component coating and should always be mixed thoroughly with a power agitator before application. Prior to application, strain mixed material through 60 mesh screen or other suitable filtration device. Airless Spray Recommended Use a 0.38mm (15 thou) tip size and adjust pressure as needed. See Product Characteristics section for further details Air Spray (Conventional) Recommended See Product Characteristics section for further details Brush Suitable Roller Suitable Thinner T-5 Thinner Cleaner T-5 Thinner Work Stoppages Do not allow material to remain in hoses, gun or spray equipment. Thoroughly flush all equipment with T-5 Thinner. Partially filled containers may show surface skinning and/or a viscosity increase of the material after storage. Clean Up Clean all equipment immediately after use with T-5 Thinner. It is good working practice to periodically clean equipment during the course of the working day. Frequency of cleaning will depend upon amount sprayed, temperature and elapsed time, including any delays. See Product Characteristics section for further details All surplus material and empty containers should be disposed of in accordance with appropriate regional regulations/legislation. Page 2 of 4 HT-4H High Temperature Silicone Acrylic PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS Advantages: - Temperature resistance up to 232ºC (450°F) - Excellent gloss and colour retention - Smooth, easy to clean finish - Chlorine free - use to coat stainless steel surfaces Do not exceed recommended film thickness. HT-4H is not suitable for immersion. To minimize pinholing and bubbling when applied over inorganic zincs, use a mist coat/full coat technique with minimum of one minute elapsed time between cross passed coats. Allow the first coat to dry at least 4 hours at 25ºC (77°F) before applying the next coat. Thinning is not normally required or desired; however, at lower temperatures, small amounts (5% or less by volume) of T-5 Thinner can be added depending on local VOC and air quality regulations. For airless spray application, use a 100 ft.1/4'' diameter ID airless hose with 8-10 ft. painters whip at the gun connection. For air spray application, use a suitable material pressure pot with mechanical agitator and dual regulators for air and fluid; a professional grade gun with 78E needle and tip combination or equivalent.50 ft. length fluid hose, minimum 1/4'' ID;50 ft. length air hose, minimum 3/8'' ID should be used with a air supply minimum of 80 psi, 25 cfm at spray gun nozzle. Use a suitable in-line moisture trap and oil separators to provide clean, dry air to pressure pot and spray gun. When application is made by conventional air spray, use the lowest air pressure that will achieve good atomization in order to minimize overspray. Apply the material in one wet coat over-lapping each pass 50%. To repair HT-4H, or to add thickness, the area should be cleaned and all loose material and dust should be removed. Spray material on an area larger than that being repaired. Special attention should be give to all edges, pits, welds, corners, rivets and other rough spots to insure complete coverage. Tint the appropriate base using industrial colourants. Do not use water based colourants. Colours are not stable and will darken as 149ºC (300°F) is approached. Note: VOC values are typical and are provided for guidance purpose only. These may be subject to variation depending on factors such as differences in colour and normal manufacturing tolerances.
