Firefly Access Panels and Doors
Method Statement
NB – ALL METAL USED FOR INSTALLATION OF FIREFLY ACCESS PANELS AND DOORS SHOULD BE
EITHER METSEC RAPID INSTALL (RI) OR UNISTRUT EQUIVALENT AND MUST CONFORM TO EITHER
BS EN 10346 or BS EN 10326 – COMPONENT DETAILS ATTACHED.
Pre Drill all holes into Channel prior to fixing components using a 3mm drill
Always install Access Doors and Hatches in the centre of a FIREFLY panel in both vertical and
horizontal orientations
1.Remove from packaging and check components.
• Access Hatch 1 x Hatch & Frame 12 x Fixing
Screws TC25’s 1 x Allen Key
• Access Door 1 x Door & Frame 18 x Fixing
Screws TC25’s 1 x Allen Key
5. T ighten all components
back to all edges and
between (RI) Channels
with supplied screws.

2. R
elease back frame from door by removing bolts
from the hinges (keep safely as will be required
later)
3. In the line of the FIREFLY
fire barrier, install two
(RI) Channels in required
orientation but do not
tighten yet.
4. Install the door frame
in position between the
(RI) Channels, with the
supplied screws, (check
the orientation), pre-drill
(RIS) Channel before
fitting door.
6. Install the barrier over
the channels and door
frame. Ensure the door or
hatch is in the centre of
the FIREFLY fire barrier,
between the two inner
black lines.
7. M
ake two cuts in the fire barrier from internal
corners see pictures below
8. Staple all cut edges
12. M
ake penetration hole in barrier for closing lock
to marry up with door frame bolt.
13. Install cut flaps back to the inside of the angle
frame with standard 25x25x0.7mm galvanised
angle fixed at maximum 250mm centres.
9. S
lacken off the fixing screws fixed to the
Access Door or Hatch hinges
10. F rom the rear of the frame locate the hole for
the hinge bolts and clear hole through Firefly. Insert the bolts through the hinge plates into the
socket behind the frame.
14. Install cover plate over locking bolt hole
15. C
lose door making sure it opens and closes
easily then secure by using Allen tool in bolt to
approximately 10 complete turns or 2.2nm of
torque.
11. F it door hinges back on the bolts that have just
been inserted, ensure that all screw threads
are installed correctly before tightening. Note Screws for hinge are Pozi screw heads.
