Mounting flange on output shaft
Usage Gear units can be supplied with an EBD mounting flange on the LSS (option …"/EF22" or "/EF21").
Counterflange for flange mounted gear units
Gear units can be supplied with a mounting flange on the LSS. Dependent on the bearing configuration, the two flange types are called
• "Mounting flange"
• "EBD mounting flange"
Basically, both flange types are possible for all gear unit designs and mounting positions:
• MC.L..
• MC.V..
• MC.E..

The counterflange must have the following characteristics:
• Stiff and torsionally rigid, taking into consideration
– gear unit weight
– motor weight
– the torque that has to be transmitted
– additional forces acting on the gear unit from the customer machine (e.g. axial forces from and towards gear unit from a mixing process)
• Horizontal
• Plain
• Vibration isolating, that means no vibrations are to be transmitted from close-by machines and elements
• No resonance vibrations should be created
• A bore with H7 fitting matching the centering shoulder of the gear unit flange according to the dimension drawing
The mounting surface of mounting flange and counter flange must be absolutely free of grease or oil and from other contamination (e.g. small textile particles,
dust, ...).
The alignment of the gear unit LSS in relation to the counterflange has to be as accurate as possible. This has an effect on the lifetime of bearing, shafts and coupling.
Allowable misalignments for the coupling on the LSS can be seen in chapter 5.2 or in a separate coupling manual.
Following bolts of the 8.8 class should be used (tensile strength 640 N/mm

EBD sealing systems
Standard sealing system
• Two NBR shaft seals on ground bushing for vertical LSS downwards (= M5; shaft position 3).
• 1 NBR shaft seal for vertical LSS upwards (= M5; shaft position 4) and for other mounting positions.
• Radial labyrinth.

Optional sealing systems
The following options are pre-defined:
• Grease nipple and piping for radial labyrinth (extra protection for shaft seals in dusty environments) for foot mounted gear units.
• Shaft seals made from Viton instead of NBR.
• Leakage indicator (for sizes 02 and 03) for gear units with vertical LSS pointing downward.

Drywell sealing system (for sizes 04…09) for gear units with vertical LSS pointing downward in conjunction with pressure lubrication. The lower bearing is grease lubricated and protected from the oil by a built-in pipe (in white color), also referred to as "Drywell". The oil level is below the upper end of the drywell which means the upper bearings and partly the gearset are pressure lubricated by an oil pump. In case of wear of the LSS seals, no oil can leak from the oil bath to the LSS.

Due to the reduced oil level requirement in the gear unit housing, an additional oil tank may be necessary. This is dependent from
• gear unit size
• input speed; input speed range
• ratio
• input power
• selected pump size / pump delivery volume
• thermal issues
For a guideline for using an additional oil tank, refer to chapter 6.3.

has to be reduced in a linear manner if the center of gravity distance x is increased. F q max
cannot be increased if the center of gravity distance is reduced.

• If you want to retrofit motor adapters with a cooling fan (not for motor sizes 132S and
132M).
