They also have expertise in applying radio therapeutic techniques and are able to apply the principles of radiation protection in practice. The professional is recognized and protected by Dutch law (Wet op de beroepen in de individuele gezondheidszorg, article 34) and the qualifications of the general radiographer are regulated in the Besluit opleidingseisen en deskundigheidsgebied radiodiagnostisch laborant en The degree programme MIRT is practice-oriented with a professional orientation applied to theory and practice on medical imaging & radiotherapy techniques. The degree programme MIRT is composed of compulsory units (195 ECTS credits, of which 54 credits are work placement) and elective units (45 ECTS credits). In the electives, students can specialize (PET/CT/MRI or Advanced Radiotherapy or Ultrasonography) or generalize their theoretical knowledge. Communicating and instructing: The MIRT Bachelor communicates (verbally and in writing) and participates in a multidisciplinary, multicultural and/or international environment with regard to profession-related issues. Observing and developing policy: The MIRT Bachelor acts on the basis of a critically reflective attitude and takes into account the professional code, rules of behaviour, reserved procedures and legal frameworks while making a contribution to optimizing the operational policy of a department. Collaboration: The MIRT Bachelor functions both independently and as part of a team within a work organization and functionally attunes his/her own professional actions within the boundaries of his/her expertise and abilities to the actions of other members of the multidisciplinary team. The radiographer as a developer of the profession. Applied Research: When taking decisions about care for (individual) patients, the MIRT Bachelor makes use of relevant national and international (scientific) insights, theories, concepts and research results and integrates these approaches in his/her professional actions (evidence-based practice). The MIRT Bachelor participates in applied research for the further development of professional practice and its scientific foundation. Quality Assurance and Innovation: The MIRT Bachelor contributes to the content-related development and profiling of the profession by initiating and implementing quality management and innovation processes e.g. new developments and new guidelines, in professional practice. Learning, evaluating and shaping his/her professional practice and the profession itself: On the basis of an active learning attitude, the MIRT Bachelor plays an active role in promoting his/her professional awareness and in developing his/her professional competencies and translates trends and developments in professional practice (national and international) into his/her professional practice. SUBJECT SPECIFIC The radiographer as a professional in health care. Patient-focused provision of care: From the perspective of the patient, the MIRT Bachelor takes into account and maintains an optimal balance between the medical/technical and psychosocial aspects of the examination or treatment while it is being conducted. Methodical and professional action. Working in an independent, methodical and evidencebased manner the MIRT Bachelor: selects, argues and prepares a suitable medical imaging examination approach or treatment on the basis of (own) analysis of a question and/or indication, gives an account of this and advises accordingly; carries out an examination or treatment (with ionizing radiation, magnetic resonance or ultrasound), processes the obtained images, analyses and judges these in terms of quality, completes the examination or treatment and reports accordingly. Safe and preventive action: While maintaining the ALARA principle, the MIRT Bachelor coordinates the process of creating and guaranteeing maximum safety for the patient, him/herself and others and works in a safe manner when carrying out medical imaging examinations and treatments with ionizing radiation and magnetic resonance, taking into account current safety 2 In general, Bachelor degree programmes give access to Master studies e.g. in health care leadership and management.
