Like a welding helmet, gloves, closed toe shoes, long sleeve shirt and, no skin showing. Why a helmet? Well little one when welding you will notice that there is a bright light and it can damage your eyes very quickly. Why gloves? Well the tool you use for welding can burn your fingers if you do not have the proper hand wear. Why no skin showing and closed toe shoes? If you have the supplies The supplies are: -Soldering iron -Soldering kit -Rosin core solder Prepare your space: Find a place to place down the iron down were it won’t burn something Get stuff together Let iron heat up Solder: Put metal close Use soldering iron to heat up both parts Touch it with the solder If it’s hot enough solder will start to spread AKA melt on surface Add enough solder to fill the area your trying to solder Move solder and soldering iron away from metals and let cool If you are not comfortable with using iron then use a glue gun. ActivityMake a jewelry box For this activity you need to go on a scavenger hunt for small pieces of metal and old jewelry. Materials: A shoe box Pieces of metal (jewelry or scrap metal) A hot glue gun Steps: 1. Get your shoe box 2. Collect your pieces of scraps metal 3. Get your hot glue gun and plug it in 4. After the hot glue gun heats up you can either put the hot glue on the jewelry and put it on the shoe box or you can put the hot glue on the shoe box then stick the jewelry on the shoe box. 5. Then wait for hot glue to dry 6. Then you have a beautiful jewelry box to store all of your jewelry in. Our inspiration Well we wanted to do welding for our silver award project because, we thought it would be fun and interesting to learn about, plus we wanted to do something different. Our problem at first was how are we going to allow brownies too do it because of the whole age thing. So, we came up with the hot glue idea because it’s age appropriate and it’s just a easy way of putting two things together without anyone getting seriously hurt. Which in our case is our activity (the jewelry box). We decided to do the jewelry box because, it was a cute idea that all brownies would enjoy.
