LIPO Battery Safety
You must read carefully before using this product
WARNING: Not following the guidelines of this safety sheet will create high risk of serious injury and or property damage. Exercise
care while using this product, Neglect to comply with the following information could result in product malfunction, property
damage, and or serious physical injuries.

procedures or accept this responsibility you are to return the product to the place of purchase in new and unused condition.
Motiv RC, its distributors or retailors assume no liability for the failure to comply with these instructions, safety regulations and
warnings.
Guidelines and Warnings
: Stop using or charging your battery permanently if it becomes or appears damaged, becomes discolored, deformed or swelled.
Also stop using if it leaks or exceeds temperature of 160deg F (71deg C). If anything abnormal occurs you must disconnect the battery, place
in a Li-Po safe container and observe in a safe place for at least 30min then dispose of it carefully. Delayed chemical reactions can happen. A “Safe Place”
being a place outside and is at least 20ft from any building, car or any flammable or combustible object or materials.
: ONLY CHARGE LI-PO BATTERYS WITH CHARGERS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR CHARGING LIPO BATTERYS!
-If you have a charger capable of charging all forms of battery’s (Ie: Ni-Mh, Ni-Cd) you must check each time that the charger is set properly on Li-Po
mode. It is a Major responsibility of yours to select a charger which is deemed to be safe and have the least risk of malfunction possible, User error and
charger malfunction is the no: 1 cause of a Li-Po battery becoming damaged, causing property damage, and minor or major injuries.
-Always charge battery’s using the balance function of your charger. This will monitor the voltage of the cells and reduce the chance of one cell becoming
over charged which could result in a fire causing serious damage or injury.
-Never charge battery’s with the use of unsafe charging harness (Charger wire leads), examples of unsafe charge leads would include but not be limited to
alligator clips, improper size male bullet plugs, exposed wire, anything used as a jumper to the battery for the absence of the proper connectors.
-Charging with a multi Connector harness is NOT recommended as the risk of a short circuit is only multiplied with each added connector.
: Never charge battery unattended!
- You must always monitor the charging process, look for anything abnormal such as the voltage rising above 4.2V/Cell or the voltage staying the same
during charging, either scenario could mean that the charger is malfunctioning. Also monitor for temperature increase or rising heat during charging.
: Do not Discharge a Li-Po battery below 3.V per cell
-Do not run the battery dead or to a slow in the car.
-3Volts per cell is the lowest operating or discharging voltage permitted for the battery to ever drop to, this means for single cell applications 3Volts, two
cell applications 6V, Three cell applications 9V minimum and so on.
: Never store the Battery inside your car or in high temperature locations
- Extreme temperature can cause the battery to ignite and cause fire.
-Store batteries out of reach from children, Keep children or anyone not aware of these precautions away from Li-Po battery’s at all times.
: Use quality and tight fitting bullet plugs in your vehicle, replace bullet plugs when fitting loose after time
- Loose fitting bullet plugs will cause a point of greater resistance than intended, this will create heat which could result in the case melting or worse yet
put the battery in a more volatile state.
: Do not Alter your battery in any way
-Do not ever attempt to disassemble your battery in any way.
-Never modify your battery to fit in a vehicle in which its exact size is not intended.
:Never short circuit your battery, Short circuit could cause fire, and injury
-use shrink tube to cover all exposed wire in your vehicle and charge leads.
-Be aware of your battery’s surroundings, such as anything conductive that could be bumped or misplaced surrounding the battery’s +/- terminals, Never
cut the positive and negative wires together causing a short circuit, Never unplug the charge leads from the charger while the battery is still plugged
into the other end of the charge leads.
CHARGING
: Never charge Battery’s unattended
: Always use chargers designed specifically for charging Li-Po battery’s
-Never charge Li-Po batteries with chargers meant for Ni-Mh, or Ni-Cd battery’s.
-Do not charge battery’s on or near any flammable materials, this will help ensure that if there is a malfunction it can be contained with the
least amount of damage and injury possible.
-Do not ever expose the battery to direct sunlight during charging, resting or storage, never leave in a vehicle, especially when the vehicle is
resting and exposed to sunlight.
-Always charge your battery in a fire proof container or Li-Po safe sack. Do not charge your battery in your RC vehicle.
-Always visually inspect your battery before charging and after charging.
-Always allow your battery to cool to its safe ambient temperature before charging after its previous discharge cycle.
- Monitor the resting voltage of your battery before charging, Do not charge any battery that has lower voltage than 3.0Volts in any cell.
-Always select the correct cell count on your charger, please reference the chargers settings to the battery’s label.
-Never charge the battery exceeding 2C, C=the thousand value capacity of the battery (5000Mah = 10amp max charge).
-Monitor the battery’s voltage after charging to ensure that your charger has not exceeded 4.2V per cell.
-Always double check to ensure that your charge leads from your charger and to your battery are of the correct polarity.
DISCHARGING
: Discharge temperature should never exceed 160deg F (71deg C)
-Temperatures exceeding 160deg F during discharge results in much higher risk of Fire and permanent damage to the battery.
-Irreversible damage will occur when battery’s resting voltage is discharged below 3V per cell.
-It is recommended to utilize a common function on most speed controllers which will monitor your battery’s voltage and prevent battery
damage by shutting down the vehicle if the battery voltage gets too low.
-Stop driving your vehicle immediately if you notice any loss of power from its normal performance, this means that the voltage is close to
dropping below the battery’s low voltage point.
- If discharging a battery using a discharger (not in car) you must use ALL the same precautions, care of handling and monitoring during
discharge as you would during the charging process.
: If your Li-Po battery is involved in a very hard crash, dropped on the ground or introduced to any hard shock or impact
-Visually inspect the battery immediately, Quickly look for punctures, smoke, swelling, or any sign that the battery may already be entering a volatile state,
if you see immediate signs of this you must be aware of its and your surroundings as a burst and fire is likely to come fast. If no signs of immediate burst
and fire is present you should carefully handle the battery and immediately place it in to a lipo safe bag. The bag with battery inside should be placed in an
area free of any flammable or combustible material then monitored for at least 30min (Delayed reactions can occur). Only After this you should do a
thorough inspection of the battery. If no signs of damage are still present of you can then carefully attempt to use again.
: Storing and Transporting your battery
-Always disconnect your battery and remove from your vehicle.
-Always store battery in air tight flame proof container away from flammable or corrosive material, Store in a low humidity environment.
-Always store battery in the temperature range of 50deg-80deg F (10deg-26deg C).
-Never expose battery to extreme temperature. Inside a hot automobile, direct sunlight are examples of harmful environments.
-Store your battery between 3.7V and3.8V per cell. This is the battery’s most comfortable state of voltage and will result in the best performance.
-If storing the battery for a long period of time you must charge the battery back to 3.7-3.8 V every eight months as the battery will self-discharge.
: ADDED
-When a battery loses 20% of its capacity it then must no longer be used.
-To dispose of the battery you must discharge it to 3Vper cell, insulate the +/- terminals of your battery and dispose at your local hazard waste facility.
