Position Available: Plans Examiner, Electrical
LUESA-Code Enforcement is one of the most innovative permitting and inspection (P & I) departments in
the country. The department is currently recruiting dedicated, collaborative professionals to fill positions
in our Commercial Plan Review division. This division performs plan review electronically on commercial
buildings that range from small upfits and renovations to large, complex high rise buildings.
Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement is committed to working closely with the design team through the
plan review process. The department offers many different tools to assist in plan review and code
compliance, including preliminary review meetings with the plans examiners to discuss project specific
issues and Express Review meetings which conducts the plan review while the design team is present.

Responsibilities:
Examines plans and specifications for compliance with North Carolina state building codes. Makes
decisions or judgments on the interpretation of state building codes, approves or disapproves construction
documents (plans, specifications, calculations) and communicates results to design professionals orally or
in writing. Provides field inspections as necessary, participates in submissions of code to both state and
model code organizations as needed, and organizes and attends project pre-reviews with designers. Works
in a team environment without direct supervision, keeps management informed of unusual problem
situations during the plan review process from plan submittal through final project approval.
Special Requirements:
The Electrical plans examiners review plans and specifications for compliance with the National
Electrical Code. Candidates should have strong facilitation skills as they will be working with different
trade leads and agency leads when projects are under review in order to effectively communicate and
coordinate issues between the different units.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or professional degree in Architecture, and five years of experience
in the design/construction of commercial buildings or five years of experience as a level three code
official or equivalent combination of education and experience in design or construction.
Must obtain Level III inspector certification (in the specified trade) through the North Carolina Code
Official Qualification Board within one year of hire. Multiple trade certifications a plus.
Supervisory experience as a construction project manager or design office manager or licensed P.E.
or Architect is a plus
Requires a valid Driver's License. Must obtain and maintain a Mecklenburg County Driver's Permit.
Salary Range: $49,645.60 - $62,057.00 - $65,159.85
