• The K596 reactive load bank is a small portable unit intended as
a companion to the K595 portable resistive load bank. The load
steps in the K596 are arranged to complement the load steps of
the K595 and to provide 0.8 power factor at each step. The K596
can also be used with other resistive loads for power factor load
tests.
• Since the resistive load bank rating is 55.5 kW at 240 volts, the
K596 provides 41.6 kVAR at this operating point. For K595
resistive load bank with 480 volt capability, the K596 also provides
40.5 kVAR to complement the 54 kW rating.
• The Model K596 reactive load bank may also be used for 50 Hz
operation. In the 240 volt mode, it may be used up to 208 volts,
50 Hz, with a rating of 37.5 kVAR. At 380 volts, 50 Hz, the rating
is 30.5 kVAR.
• The K596 provides additional versatility in that it is configured in a
four-wire wye circuit, which enables it to be used in single-phase
loading applications. When so connected, the K596 provides full
load capability at 138 volts and 277 volts, 60 Hz.
• The K597 is the 400 Hz version of the K596. The K597 is rated at
450/208 VAC, 3-phase, 400 Hz.

When used together with our
K595 unit, the K596 provides a
0.8 power factor (PF) at 60 Hz.
The K596 and K597 units provide a range of single and three
phase testing options due to
their four-wire wye design.

Load Bank Specifications:

ONTROL PANEL: The K596 and K597 reactive load
banks are equipped with a control panel mounted on
the enclosure. From the operator station, the operating
voltage may be selected and control power turned on
and off. Load step control switches can be turned on in
any combination to provide a reactive load from 0 to the
full rating of the load bank. A master load switch is provided for simultaneous application of all loads selected
by the load step switches. This allows for shock loading
of generators.

ONSTRUCTION: The load bank is contained in a rugged steel enclosure, with two rigid and lockable swivel
casters mounted at the corners for simplified handling.
• C
ONTROL POWER: The K596 requires 6 amps at both
120VAC/60HZ and 110VAC/50HZ. A line cord is included with the load bank for quick connection.
• COOLING: The K596 and K597 are convection cooled
units and require unimpeded airflow through the
screened intake and exhaust openings of the enclosure.
• REACTORS: Iron core construction with a power factor
of less than 0.05 at 60 and 400 Hz. At rated voltages
and frequency, the applied load will be within ±5% of
selected value.
• SAFETY: The control circuit is fuse protected and the
load circuit is disabled by a door interlock switch if the
load connection access door is not securely closed and
latched.
• DIMENSIONS/WEIGHT: 37” L x 23” W x 58½” H. Approximately 650 lbs.
