DALI
THE KEY TO CONTEMPORARY LIGHT MANAGEMENT
What is DALI? DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is the new cross-manufacturer interface standard for dimmable electronic lighting devices. DALI has primarily been designed for convenient control of the light-ing inside enclosed spaces. The key focus here is on straightforward
operation of the light along with all associated components, without any complications.
A more in-depht look at DALI
• N
o need to respect the polarity of the
control leads with DALI ballasts
• Existing power supply and control leads
can be used
• Interference-proof transmission thanks
to digital technology
• Each device can be activated individually
• Group assignments only made on first
use; no need for group wiring
• DALI electronic ballasts can be associated with several groups (longitudinally
and transversely) at the same time
• A
mbience values and group assignments are stored in the electronic ballast (number of components is significantly reduced compared with a 1–10 V
system)
• Feedback possible in respect of ballast
status (bulb on/off, current brightness
value, bulb fault)
• Special settings such as light-variation
rate or emergency-power-mode characteristics
• W
hen an ambience setting is called,
all DALI electronic ballasts achieve the
dimming setpoint simultaneously (synchronously)
Uncomplicated design, versatile functions
Every electronic ballast within the DALI
system can be addressed digitally and individually (thereby eliminating interference),
can be associated with several groups simultaneously and can store the relevant
lighting levels for the various lighting ambiences. As a result, DALI systems call
for significantly fewer components than
comparable 1–10 V systems. DALI electronic ballasts easily outstrip the capabilities of the 1–10 V interface in terms of
their functionality, by supporting status
feedback from every electronic ballast, for
example, or simultaneous attainment of
the dimming setpoint by all devices even
when starting from different lighting levels.
Moreover, there is no limit to the number
of switching operations, as the electronic
ballasts can themselves switch devices on
and off, without a relay.
Dlite® room lighting
Comprehensive lighting system for care
of the elderly
The Dlite® brand from Derungs® Medical Lighting is a comprehensive lighting
system consisting of interchangeable
components. In this way, we can create
a lighting concept individually tailored to
your requirements and can offer you the
perfect lighting solution to take account of
all relevant technical lighting factors.
Dlite® Light provides optimum lighting for
entry zones and reception areas as well as
corridors, staircases and seating areas.
An adequate level of brightness coupled
with warm, glare-free lighting creates a
friendly atmosphere in all areas along with
optimum conditions for both residents and
staff.
In patient rooms, the synergies between
direct and indirect light in particular are
used to full effect. In addition to general
lighting, reading lamps, examination lamps
and nightlights can also be provided as an
integral part of the solution.
Not only does the room lighting system
provide intensive lighting; it also meets the
ever increasing demands for a homely and
comfortable atmosphere.

The DALI-Principle
A 2-wire control lead can be used for flexible control of up to 64 DALI lighting devices, individually, jointly or in up to 16 control groups.
DALI, the new digital standard in the field
of light control,
enables the straightforward installation associated with the familiar
The lighting is switched on/off and dimmed via the control lead, i.e., no relay is
required. Important information such as
the bulb status is stored in the lighting device and is available to the control device
as data.

convenience of an intelligent light control
system. In other words: Using DALI plugs

technology and complex bus systems.
DALI can be connected via a gateway to a
building management system (e.g., EIB or
LON). If necessary, the light can also be
switched on/off centrally or the DALI system can be checked, e.g. for faulty bulbs.
