PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Separable connector or so-called Plug-in is a separable cable termination. That means it can
be plugged in and out. There are two basic types of Separable connectors.
•
Load Break System is a fully insulated and shielded system. For this reason, the
apparatus using this connector is frequently referred to as Dead Front since there are no
exposed parts at operating voltage.
•
Dead Break System is designed to be opened or to be closed only when a circuit is deenergized. Neither voltage nor current can be present when this type of Separable
Connector is opened or closed.
Separable connector and conventional termination (such as QTII and QTIII) perform the same
function, by means: to terminate a power cable, either at a piece of equipment or at a junction
of the power cable to the overhead system. The applications can be split into,
•
Underground cable connected to the overhead system: use of Live Front Terminations,
like 3M’s QTII or QTIII. Connections that are not fully insulated and shielded.
•
Cable connected to equipment (transformers, switchgears, motors…): choice of either
using a separable connector or a live front termination.
