Function generator
Design
The function generator consists of a micro controller circuit, a selector switch, LCD
display, pushbuttons, signal inputs, signal outputs and two bus bars for the power
supply. The electrical connections for operating voltage, signal inputs and outputs
are in the form of 4mm safety plugs. The unit is mounted either in the mounting
frame or on the profile plate using four plug-in adapters.

The function generator is equipped with an LCD display for the display of the set
mode of operation and current measured values. The language shown on the display
can be switched by simultaneously pressing the START and STOP pushbuttons when
switching on.

The modes of operation are set via a selector switch (hex switch).
The function generator enables the counting of the proximity sensor output pulses.
The time gap between two successive pulses can be determined via a START/STOP
circuit.
Examples
Counting process
The selector switch is set to the "Pulse" setting.
To count objects, the output of a proximity sensor can be connected to socket S2.
The counting process can be started, stopped or reset to “000” via the pushbuttons
or proximity sensor connected to the S1 series sockets. You should make sure that
the proximity sensor is connected to the same reference potential (0V connections)
as that of the timer.
Frequency measurement
The selector switch is set to the "Pulse/s" setting.
If speeds are to be measured using a proximity sensor (via perforated disks or
similar), the speed can be determined with the help of the counter, whereby the
switch output of the proximity sensor must be connected to socket S2.
The displayed value can be easily converted into the corresponding speed rpm-1. The
speed V is obtained as followed:

Time measurements
The selector switch is set to the settings "t0, t1, t2, t3".
t0: The function generator operates in the same way as a manually operated stop
watch. The times can be measured with the help of the START and STOP
pushbuttons.
t1, t2, t3: 3 times can be measured simultaneously. The currently displayed time can
be selected via the selector switch. The input sockets S1 measure the time t1, the
input sockets S2 measure the time t2 and the input sockets S3 measure the time t3.
The times are stored until cancelled via the RESET socket or RESET pushbutton.
Frequency output
The selector switch is set to the "frequency out" setting.
The output socket OUT supplies a square-wave voltage with 24 V DC level and a
maximum current of 2A. The frequency range is 0.01 to 200Hz. The frequency is set
via the START/UP and RESET/DOWN pushbuttons. Once set, the frequency last set is
output.
Voltage output
The selector switch is set to the "Pulse width out" setting.
The output socket OUT supplies an output voltage of 0 to 24 V DC and a maximum
current of 2A. The voltage is set via the START/UP and RESET/DOWN pushbuttons.
One switched on, the voltage last set is output.

Note
You have selected an output function of the function generator (frequency or voltage
output) and set a value.
You would now like to select an input function (counting processes, frequency
measurement or time measurement).
In order to do so, you must not turn the selector switch beyond the second output
function as the set output value would thus not be retained.
