Overall Job Purpose
To coordinate the My Life My Choice (MLMC) training, easy read translation and
consultancy operation (Power up) ensuring the maximisation of fee earning opportunities.
Developing business and gaining new clients and paid work for the charity is a crucial
element of this role.
Crucially and in line with the values and mission of MLMC the role will involve working with
the freelance Power Up trainers and consultants with learning disabilities in order to deliver a
high quality service.
The role will be part of the overall MLMC team, consisting of two Project Workers, the Media
and Communications Worker, the Finance Worker and five Session Workers working under
the supervision of the Charity Coordinator in order to deliver the individual project objectives.
The projects are as follows…

10 monthly self-advocacy groups where 130 members meet their friends, discuss their
lives, and gain new knowledge/skills.

StingRay nightclub – a user-led event for people with learning disabilities where they
combat loneliness and enjoy a night out.

Travel buddy – a project whereby adults with learning disabilities support their peers to
travel independently on public transport.

Power Up – a user led fee earning training and consultancy service.

StingRadio – a user led monthly radio show increasing confidence & skills, and giving a
voice to people with learning disabilities.

Champions with learning disabilities speak up, campaign and develop networks in
order to shape society.
Main Responsibilities and tasks

Develop and design high quality, exciting, accessible, and creative training for internal
and external clients linked to current issues affecting people with learning disabilities in
Oxfordshire.

Support, organise, work with and coordinate trainers with learning disabilities to deliver
training.

Responsible for identifying and converting opportunities to generate income and
achieving financial targets.

To establish links with potential public and private sector fee paying clients.

Maintain and develop current partnerships.

To organise transport for trainers/consultants to and from events.

Meet people who want to use our training and consultation services and find out their
needs to see if they fit our Power Up remit, and negotiate contracts.

With support from the MLMC staff team to lead the delivery of the MLMC AGM with
the Power Up team.

To understand and then explain policy to trainers/consultants in an accessible way so
that they are informed and prepared to take part in local and national consultations.

To keep in touch with latest developments in training/consultancy and the learning
disabilities agenda.

Train the trainers/consultants and continue their development.

Complete records, monitoring and evaluation of training/consultancies.

Assisting the Charity Coordinator in Power Up fundraising initiatives.

To translate written documents into easy read for fee paying clients.

To assist at the monthly StingRay nightclub.

To undertake any other duties as may from time to time be required.

As part of the project team, to support project staff and beneficiaries with the different
projects as and when required.

Assure the organisation and its mission, programs and services are consistently
presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders. Representing the
charity with its members at key forums and meetings.


Experience and skills
Essential

Proven track record of gaining business and growing income.

Proven track record of cultivating excellent client relationships.

Able to communicate and network with a wide variety of people.

Commitment to the practice of empowering people with learning disabilities to have
choice and control over their lives.

Able to support people to speak up for themselves and learn skills.

Good facilitation, presentational, written, and organisational skills.

Ability to research, design and write training courses/material.

Experience of organising training, conferences and/or events.

Good IT Skills including PowerPoint, Excel, Word.

Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Methodical and well organised, with the ability to prioritise.

Willingness to learn and to be adaptable to change

Understanding/knowledge and experience of applying training theories.

Experience of developing, monitoring and reviewing projects.

Understanding of or the ability to research and learn about learning disability
legislation and current sector issues.

Competent driver with UK driving licence and access to a car.

Salary
The full grade for this post is NJC Scale 26-29 and the salary is
£22,937- £25,440 per annum
Hours of Work
You will normally be expected to work 7.5 hours per day, for 5 days a week.
Benefits
 Pension
You will be enrolled in the My Life My Choice’s staff pension scheme and My Life My Choice
will make a contribution of 6% of your earnings. Additionally, you may choose to contribute
up to 15% of your earnings.
 Holidays
The holiday year runs from 1 January to 31 December. Holiday entitlement for this post is 25
days per annum.
 Compassionate Leave
We offer up to 10 days paid compassionate leave at the discretion of the Charity
Coordinator.
 Flexible Working & Time Off In Lieu (TOIL)
There is an ability to work flexible hours and take TOIL, but this will need to be negotiated with
the Charity Coordinator.
 Probationary Period
All new appointments are subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
