Aim
To co-ordinate the delivery of the City & Guilds’ Certificate in Self-Development Through Learning
(henceforth known as Learning Power) for the Learning Zone and Skylight Cafe learners.
To monitor attendance, progress, retention and achievement by liaising with tutors and ensuring that all
learner portfolios are kept up to date.
To be the first point of contact with Newham college.
To deliver 20 hours of teaching.
Dimensions
The Learning Power Coordinator will be managed within the Learning Zone by the Senior Tutor.
Salary
NJC Scale 2.2 points 25-28 (£23920-£26030)

Principal accountabilities
To contribute and work as part of the Learning Zone team by:
• Teaching and co-ordinating the Learning Power curriculum
• Working towards the course specification
• Managing the co-ordination of student portfolios
• Monitoring individual learning plans to address student needs identified during enrolment, interview,
induction, initial assessment and through diagnostic interviews
• Verifying that learning goals/targets are established and monitored
• Developing and maintaining Learning Power materials
• Support tutors in preparing end of course tests and exams
• Participate proactively in public relations and Learning Zone promotional activities
• Undertaking staff development to update existing skills and gain new skills
• Complying with all the relevant Health and Safety regulations and assist Crisis in the implementation
of its own Health and Safety policy
• Comply with and actively promote Crisis Equal opportunities policy
Person specification
Skills and Knowledge
• A qualified teacher in the FE/ACL who has delivered high quality learning programmes
• Sound knowledge of best practice and quality standards expected for the successful delivery of
externally funded courses
• Able to provide and support the continual professional development of staff
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Creative teacher able to help students build varied portfolio of evidence based learning
Experience
• Working with vulnerable adults
• Creating and working with individual lesson plans
• Monitoring and evaluating work produced, ensuring successful outcomes for the learner and the
project
Desirable
• Knowledge/experience of one of the self-development through learning courses such as Learning
Power or Profile of Achievement.
Terms and Conditions
The following terms and conditions are typically offered to Crisis staff on permanent contracts,
and are set out here for your information only. Terms and conditions may vary according to
circumstances and this summary does not form part of any subsequent employment contract.
Pension
Crisis will contribute a sum equivalent to 5% of your salary into our group personal pension scheme with
Scottish Equitable. You will be entitled to join this after three months service with contributions
backdated to your start date.
Hours
Full time is 35 hours per week. Employees usually have some flexibility around start and finish time
around a core time of 10h00 – 16h00. This depends on operational needs of the department in which
employees are working.

Probationary Period
Six months, during which time the contract may be terminated with 1 week’s notice.
Notice

Holidays
25 annual leave days, plus 8 public holidays per annum. Part-time employees are entitled to 25 days pro
rata which is based on 2.08 days per month. The holiday year runs from 1 July – 30 June.
Sick pay
In the first six months of service employees are entitled to three working days sick leave. This rises to a
maximum of 43 working days after six months.
Season Ticket Loan
A loan to purchase an annual season ticket for travel to and from work may be obtained with agreement
of your line manager.
Maternity Leave and Adoption Leave
For employees with one year’s experience at 15 weeks before EWC entitled to 12 weeks full pay and 14
weeks at half pay.
Paternity leave
Up to 20 days paid leave.
