POSITION ENGINEERING FABRICATION APPRENTICE (METAL FABRICATION) DESCRIPTION Carry out tasks related to the engineering fabrication (metal fabrication) trade, under the supervision of a qualified tradesman/instructor and consistent with apprenticeship year level. Attend off the job trade school to complete learning and assessment outcomes required for the engineering fabrication (metal fabrication) trades apprenticeship. DUTIES Carry out fabrication, repair or alteration of a variety of metal structures, assemblies and equipment Use hand tools, e.g. wrenches, screwdrivers, hacksaw, cold chisel, scribers, tape measure, steel rule, pliers and punches etc. Use power tools, e.g. Electric drills, angle grinders and pneumatic (air) tools and hydraulic equipment etc. Operate workshop equipment, e.g. metal cutting , bending and shaping equipment, welding, grinding and heat treatment equipment Follow appropriate manual handling techniques for manual tasks including lifting and moving items Follow established policies and procedures for Protective Personal Apparel (PPE) use and the use or nonuse of devices such as mobile phones in workplace and training environments Follow safety and environmental practices for handling engineering fluids and waste products Use safe and appropriate means to access works areas Drive vehicles and operate machinery (licensed users only) Complete appropriate documentation and recording information on computerised programs Carry out theory and practical assessment tasks in a workshop/training centre Follow written and verbal instructions in workplace and trade school environments Communicate and interact with others in workplace and trade school environments, may include customer interaction Read and interpret engineering drawings for manufacture and assembly of engineering items and structures Follow AGA induction processes and codes of conduct. Some tasks will require moderate dexterity and moderate physical exertion through varied working positions, e.g. standing and bending positions plus working overhead. Apprentices are expected to be available during required working hours for both work placements and trade school/training centre environments and make their own safe travel arrangements. Please note that all tasks carried out in conjunction with this position will be done so in accordance with OHS legislative requirements, codes of practice, job safety analysis and safe working/operating procedures.
