This unit standard is for people entering the cleaning industry.
People credited with this standard are able to: prepare to clean
hard furniture, fixtures, and fittings; clean hard furniture,
fixtures, and fittings; polish furniture, fixtures, and fittings; and
complete job-related tasks.

1
Competence demonstrated during assessment against this standard must comply
with the requirements of:
Employment Relations Act 2000;
Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992;
Resource Management Act 1991.

Fixtures and fittings do not include computers or other information technology
devices.

Equipment and cleaning agents must be used in accordance with manufacturer’s
recommendations.

Definition
Industry best practice refers to any enterprise and/or establishment requirements,
practices, policy, procedures, methods and protocols which are in accordance with
applicable legislation, regulations and New Zealand Standards.

Spot-treatment removes all stubborn marks and soil in accordance with industry
best practice.
2.4
Surfaces are wiped free of solution in accordance with industry best practice.
2.5
Soiled solution is disposed of in accordance with the Resource Management
Act 1991.

Polish furniture, fixtures, and fittings.

3.1
Polish is applied to and removed from selected surfaces in accordance with
manufacturer's recommendations.
3.2
Appearance of buffed surface is smear and mark free in accordance with
industry best practice.

Complete job-related tasks.

4.1
Task is completed without risk or damage to cleaner, public, furniture, fixtures,
or fittings.
4.2
Equipment is cleaned, checked and stored in accordance with industry best
practice.
