Threaded Adapters
These adapters are offered with every available quick union, but care must be
taken when specifying and using this type of adapter as it is very common for
the Tubing Thread to be rated for a much lower working pressure than the Union
Connection, which brings down the pressure rating of the whole crossover.
Threaded Adapters must be used with great care and in fact, avoided if possible.
Problems arise from damaged or corroded tubing threads and improper make
up methods, as well as misunderstandings about the pressure ratings. Hunting
will supply for H2S as well as Standard Service, but many operators limit them to
Standard Service only.
Threaded Adapters are normally supplied in 4130 or 4140 material but are
available in a full range of corrosion resistant alloys (CRA’s). Higher spec
material is sometimes used as a method of increasing pressure ratings whilst
maintaining H2S resistance.
Tubing X-over
Threaded Adapters are normally supplied in
4130 or 4140 material but are available in a full
range of corrosion resistant alloys (CRA’s).
The most common configuration for Threaded Adapters is union box on top and
a threaded pin downwards. However, any example can be supplied with this
configuration reversed so that there is a threaded box on top and a union pin and
collar looking down.
Likewise, they can be supplied with a union box looking up and a threaded box
looking down. These two configurations can be used to adapt a piece of casing
or tubing for use as a lubricator or riser. Whilst this is a perfectly acceptable and
convenient solution if done properly, it can cause problems as noted above and
should only be done with caution and for low pressure applications – shooting
nipples for example.

Wireline Pressure Control Equipment
Hunting supplies threaded adapters for a variety of purposes but the most
common is to connect wireline Pressure Control Equipment to wellheads
or direct to a tubing, casing or drill pipe string. For this purpose, virtually
any type of API or Premium Connection can be supplied – New Vam, Vam
TOP, Hydril and of course Hunting’s own Premuim connections.
