People awarded credit for this unit standard are able to
demonstrate knowledge of the meaning of the articles
of the Treaty of Waitangi for human service purposes,
and are able to apply this knowledge to the context of
assessment for this unit standard.

The following apply to the performance of all elements
of this unit standard:
a
All activities must comply with any policies,
procedures, ethical codes and standards and
requirements of the organisations involved.
b
All activities must comply with any relevant
cultural, legislative and/or regulatory requirements
including the rights and responsibilities of the
disabled as outlined in the Code of Health and
Disability Services Consumers’ Rights 1996, and
the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992,
and its subsequent amendments.
c
The rights of the person with a disability are
paramount.

NZS 8134:2001 Health and Disability Sector Standards
and any subsequent amendments.

Demonstrate knowledge of issues of sexuality as it applies to disability.
Range:
sexual identity, sexual expression, sexual orientation, procreation, rights.
performance criteria
1.1
Societal attitudes and/or myths in relation to issues of sexuality are analysed in
terms of their impact on the lives of people with disabilities.
1.2
A personal attitude to issues of sexuality is analysed in terms of the impact on
the lives of individuals with a disability.
1.3
Two issues regarding individual support needs are analysed in terms of the
support worker’s values and rights to set boundaries on their work.

Demonstrate knowledge of disability as it applies to issues of sexuality support.

2.1
A sexuality issue is analysed in terms of the support available to people with
disabilities to resolve the issue.
Range:

The policies and procedures of a disability agency regarding sexuality are
analysed in terms of the impact on the consumer group.
Range:
individual support plan, organisation policy, education programme,
positive impact, negative impact.

Demonstrate knowledge of disability sexuality support services in regards to procreation.
Range:
fertility, genetic counselling, pre-natal testing.
performance criteria
3.1
One service is identified for each item in the range.
3.2
Each service identified is analysed in terms of the provision of support that it
offers.
