LC301Z and LC301ZP Installation Guide Commissioning Instructions The following steps assume that the Home Area Network (HAN) coordinator (ZIP Connect broadband gateway or ZigBee smart meter) has been commissioned but not yet provisioned for the LC301: 1) Turn on the circuit breaker and observe the green heartbeat indicator on the LC301 to verify that it has been energized. Confirm that the load is also energized. Note: If the load switch has been configured with the cold Load pickup feature, the load will remain off for up to 3 minutes before being energized. 2) Open the LC301 cover and locate the blinking red indicator light and the reset button on the circuit board. Next, locate the load type in the Load Type Table on page 2 and note the corresponding number of flashes. Description The LC301Z is a Load Control Switch compliant with ZigBee Smart Energy Profile 1.0. It can be used with typical wired 120V, 208V and 240V loads up to 30A or 1½ HP. Compatible loads include pool pumps, water heaters, baseboard heaters and HVAC compressors. The LC301ZP adds remote power monitoring capabilities. Reset button Mounting Instructions Securely mount the LC301 where it will not be subject to physical damage, the access door can be opened, and the indicators are visible. Observe the directional arrow on the LC301 label for mounting orientation. The LC301 is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. For basement installations, mount the LC301 as high as possible. In many cases the LC301 can be mounted closely enough to the load that an additional junction box can be avoided. If an attached junction box is to be used, remove knockouts and make other modifications before attaching the LC301 in order to avoid physical shocks. Red Indicator Light 3) Press and hold the reset button. After two seconds, it will begin flashing once, then twice, then three times, etc. Release the reset button once the required number of flashes is seen. Verify that the indicator light repeatedly flashes back the same pattern, repeating this step if necessary. 4) Provision the system for the LC301. This may require a call to a call center, or data entry into an installer portal. Provisioning requires the MAC address and install code of the LC301 which can be found on the LC301 carton, as well as on the device circuit board next to the reset button. 5) Observe the load switch. Once a green indicator light illuminates continuously, the device has been commissioned. If this does not happen within 4 minutes, check the provisioning information and repeat steps 4 and 5. In all cases, follow National and Local Electrical Codes. Wiring Instructions Turn off the circuit breaker at the panel to avoid electrical shock. Use a voltmeter to verify that the circuit is dead. The two BLACK wires are the power input leads and can be connected to any voltage within the specified range (line-to-line or lineto-neutral). The two YELLOW wires connect to a 30 amp normally closed relay usually used for high-voltage loads. These should be connected in series with one of the line connections of the load (never the neutral connection). Where there is a local disconnect, it is recommended that the LC301 be connected before (i.e. on the panel side) of the disconnect, such that it remains energized when the disconnect is turned off. Troubleshooting Issue Resolution LC301 does not energize (all indicators off) • • Check supply wiring. Confirm that the circuit breaker and any additional disconnects are turned on. Load does not appear to be energized and the RED indicator is OFF • • • • Check load wiring. Confirm that the circuit breaker and any additional disconnects are turned on. Check the equipment for a power switch and make sure that it is turned on. If there is a thermostat or other control system, confirm that it is in the correct mode and calling for the load to operate Load is not energized and the RED indicator is ON • • The Cold Load Pickup feature may be engaged. Wait three minutes for the random power-up delay to expire. A Direct Load Control Event may be in progress. Check with your utility or service provider to see if one is active. • Check the HAN coordinator to ensure it is connected. Where this is a ZIP Connect or other gateway device, ensure that it is powered-up and connected to the internet. Some AMI systems may take minutes or even hours to transmit provisioning data to the meter. In this case, commissioning would also be delayed. Broadband-based commissioning should occur within two minutes. If provisioning delays have been accounted for and the LC301 still has not been commissioned, check the MAC Address and Install Code from the device label and repeat the commissioning process from step 3. The LC301 has a powerful 100mW radio that works in most residential settings. In some situations where the distance between the HAN coordinator and the LC301 is greater than 50’ or 15m and there are interfering obstacles, a Range Extender device may be needed. Contact Energate for details. (Note: the Energate Pioneer Z100 thermostat acts as a Range Extender) • LC301 will not commission • • AW000429-D (over) Typical 208V / 240V installation (with disconnect) Typical 120V installation (without disconnect) LC301 LC301 Supply Load Supply Load (black) (yellow) (black) (yellow) Line Supply Line Supply Load Line Neutral Load Disconnect (if present) Indicator Light Key Green (Blinking) Device heartbeat Green (Solid) Communication Link is Active Yellow (Flashing) Opt-Out of a currently executing DLC event Yellow (Solid) Identify command received Red (Solid) Relay is open (load disconnected) Specifications Electrical: Supply Voltage: 85 to 250 VAC Supply Power: 4W Max Load Voltage: 85 to 250VAC Maximum Load: 30A or 1½ HP Product Conformity This equipment is RoHS compliant.
